Futsal
Let’s Think and Act Now!
BRIEF INTRODUCTION
13
There are 2 versions of the creation of Futsal:
The first version, is which the origin of futsal has been in the 40s,
when some youths in Sao Paulo (Brazil), for lack of soccer fields began
to improvise and play on the basketball court, which has shorter dimensions.

FUTSAL PLAYER POSITIONS
Futsal is played with a total of five on field players per team – One
goalkeeper and four players. Substitutes can be used anytime during the
match. By nature of the small court size, all players contribute to both
attack and defensive play. However, there is a general rule of thumb when it
comes to player positions and roles. How does your team stack up to the
theory below?
A. The Defender
The Defender is the player in the further back or more defensive in a Futsal
team. Some of the characteristics of a good defender are being a good
marker and having a good ball Pass. The Defender must also be
communicative to organize the marking and the exit of ball of his team.
B. The Wingers
In Futsal there is the right wing and the left wing. The wings are the players
that occupy the sides of the pitch. Some of the characteristics of the wings
are speed and agility both to attack and to defend
C. The Pivot (Forward)
The Pivot (Forward) is the most advanced player on the pitch or the
more offensive in a Futsal team. Some of the characteristics of a good Pivot
(Forward) are having a good ball control, a good pass and a good shoot /
finish. The Pivot (Forward) usually receives the ball backwards to the
opposing goalkeeper. Afterwards, the Pivot (Forward) can pass the ball to a
teammate who approaches or tries to turn and finish, shooting to the goal.
The Pivot (Forward) must be constantly moving, looking for spaces in the
opponent’s defense in order to get the ball.
D. The Goalkeeper in Futsal
The goalkeeper is the player whose main goal is to prevent the ball from
entering its own goal. The goalkeeper must be quick and can use any part of
the body to perform a defense. A good Goalkeeper should be agile, have
a good sense of positioning and communicate enough with his teammates,
as to organize the defensive system.

PREPARATION FOR PREGNANCY
If the wife is already prepared to get pregnant, she should seek a
preconception advice from her doctor, or general practitioner or a midwife. A
general check-up is necessary especially if you have health conditions like
diabetes, depression, high blood pressure, and epilepsy.

4. Avoid cigarettes, alcohol and illegal drugs which may affect the
development of the anticipated baby.
23
Most of the time failure to conceive or to have a baby is due to any of
these conditions.
BLIGHTED OVUM
Happens when the egg is
fertilized in the fallopian tube and
attaches itself to the uterus, but the
embryo failed to develop. A
pregnancy sac or the amniotic sac
developed but the individual
embryo inside did not. This may
just lead to miscarriage.

or around the uterus. Among the
symptoms of this condition are

pain, heavy bleeding during

periods, urgent need to urinate, and

2. PLACENTA PREVIA
It is a complication wherein the placenta is inserted in the lower uterine
segment, may be partial or whole. This is very critical because the fetus
relies on the placenta for food and air coming from the mother’s body
system. It may also lead to premature delivery of the baby because this
condition causes bleeding which is an initial symbol of untimely birth or
miscarriage of the baby.
3. GESTATIONAL DIABETES
It is a condition wherein a mother who was not diabetic acquires high
level of blood glucose during pregnancy. The insulin receptors of the cells
do not function properly due to the presence of human placental
lactogen which facilitates the supply of energy to the fetus. The insulin
receptors bridge the glucose molecules to enter the cells. Since the
insulin receptors do not function properly, most glucose molecules
remain in the blood resulting to a high blood glucose level. A high blood
glucose level is the cause of gestational diabetes.
POST-PARTUM DISORDER
After childbirth, the mother would have mood swings as a result of
hormonal fluctuations or changes. It happens 3 – 5 days after delivery and it
eventually normalizes as the hormone levels become stable. This mood swing
is also known as post-partum blues or “bay blues”. You might have seen a
mother who would always cry after giving birth. This is a part of the baby
blues.
