BRIEF INTRODUCTION
A festive occasion in China like the Chinese New
Year is a time to honor deities and their ancestors.
Amongst their culture, music is one of the highlights
of their unique ethnicity.

Music of China

The music of China is believed to have been founded by a man named Ling
Lun who was requested by the Yellow Emperor to create a musical system at
that time.

3
The music scale in China has at least three forms of a seven-tone scale. They
also use a five-tone pentatonic scale. Most Chinese music is in duple rhythm.

Vocal Music of China

Chinese vocal music has complex tonal inflections and is influenced by the
Chinese language. Its timbre has a profound intent than simply tone color as
an end.

Chinese music can be distinguished either northern or southern style. In

Peking Opera (northern style) the tone tends to be high-pitched, dynamic, and
energetic compared to Kun Opera (southern style) which is gentle, softer,
lyrical, and graceful. These differences may also vary on the use of melodies
related to the tonal characteristics depending on the region’s dialect.

Traditional Chinese vocal music is often melodic rather than harmonic. They
usually sing in a nasal manner. Their music is developed from sung poems
and verses accompanied by music.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8
LESSON 2: PHYSICAL ACTIVITY PLAN

EXPECTATIONS
You will prepare a physical activity program. Specifically, this
module will help you to:
 identify physical activity and exercises to include in the physical
activity plan that may help achieve improvement in health and
fitness;
 show commitment and willingness to improve one’s fitness and
health;
 act in improving one’s fitness and well-being by making a physical

Let us start your journey in learning more about Physical Activity Plan.
Let’s Think and Act Now!

LOOKING BACK TO YOUR LESSON

ACTIVITY 1 – TRUE OR FALSE

Directions: Simply write the word TRUE if the statement is correct and the
word FALSE if the statement is wrong.
1. Assessing your physical activity will help you know your status and will
able you to set your personal goals for fitness.
2. Physical activity is a planned, structured, repetitive activity that aims to
improve and maintain the components of physical fitness
3. To enhance one’s health it would be necessary to engage in exercise,
sports, or active recreation.
4. There is no need to take the health and lifestyle assessment as long as you
are eating 3 times a day.
5. Assessing your physical activity will help you know your status and will
able you to set your personal goals for fitness.

BRIEF INTRODUCTION

According to the World Health Organization, physical inactivity has

been identified as the fourth leading cause of deaths. The number of
overweight and obese individuals is on the rise which relates to the rising
number of cases of non-communicable diseases such as high blood, diabetes,
heart diseases and cancer which are developed due to an unhealthy lifestyle
and physical inactivity which results to six out of 10 deaths.

14
It has been proven that those who are physically active have higher
levels of health-related fitness and have lower risk for chronic non-
communicable diseases. It is very important that one must be able to assess
one’s physical activity level and be able to include various physical activities
in your daily/weekly schedule.

The activities that may be included in your plan should be based on the
recommended physical activity guidelines according to age, frequency and
intensity. The guidelines give us information on suggested activity for different
age group as regards to nature, intensity, duration, and frequency of physical
activity. One important feature of the guideline is that it is classified according
to age group. It is important because it recognizes different abilities,
capabilities and needs as the activity patterns changes across the lifespan. It
gives physical activity information accordingly.

Given the health implication of physical activity and exercise it is

important to assess one’s physical activity habits. Through this assessment
you’ll get to identify what you can improve and be aware of your current
situation. This will enable you to set goals and plan necessary activities to
improve health related fitness components which can contribute to attaining
fitness and wellness.

The Filipino Activity Pyramid Guide (fig. 1.3) and the Physical Activity
Guidelines (fig. 1.2) according to age category will serve as a guide in planning
your daily/weekly Health-Enhancing Physical Activity Plan. Today’s lesson
will be a day of setting goals and designing a plan of physical activities which
is suitable to your needs and according to your schedule. But first let us be
clear with certain terms that will be most likely to be used in the planning.
FITT stands for frequency, intensity, time, and type. These are the
factors that may determine what kind of impact physical activities will have
on your body.

 Frequency - the number of times you exercise per week.

Frequency should always be determined by the type of activity
you’re engaging in.
 Intensity - degree of intensity is based on the amount of work
you have to put in.
 Time - length of time you spend exercising. This has directly
impacted by the other three components of the FITT model.
 Type - type of physical activity you choose lies at the heart of the
FITT principle.
Moderate-intensity – are activities that require physical exertion that can
cause small increases in breathing or heart rate

Vigorous-intensity – are those that require hard physical effort and cause
large increases in breathing or heart rate

15
The following images will give you more essential ideas about physical
activity and exercise:

16
(images were taken from the SIPA-IN COVID a UP CHK Initiative page)

17
(researchgate.net , The Filipino Pyramid Activity Guide Fig. 1.3)

Whatever the age and physical status there is a recommended frequency, intensity,
and health-enhancing physical activity for you. Using these guidelines will help you
identify and plan activities that you can do and how frequent you should do it to
attain optimum well-being.

ACTIVITIES

ACTIVITY 1 – “PHYSICAL ACTIVITY RECORD”

 Recall and record your activities on the following days last week: Wednesday,
Friday, Saturday, Sunday
 Begin each day with 12 am (midnight) and end with the following midnight
 Record the time you change from one activity to another (e.g. 7:00 – 7:30) and
the duration or the number of minutes spent performing an activity. At the
end of the 24 hours, the total duration must equal 1440 minutes
 Describe the activity (e.g., sleeping, sitting while using cellphone, eating
lunch, taking a bath, cleaning the house, etc.) and the level at which you
pursued it. The level of activity are as follows:

Basal The energy cost of staying alive (sleeping)

18
Sedentary Sitting with little or no body movements (e.g. reading, writing, eating,
watching tv)

Light Sitting or standing with some movement of arms and other parts of
the body (e.g. bathing, preparing food, dish washing, walking at 2mph)

Moderate Sitting with vigorous arm movements, or standing with considerable

movement (e.g. Making your bed, mopping the floor, warm-up and
cool-down exercises, walking at 4mph)

Vigorous Moving the body rapidly (e.g. playing team sports, jogging, playing
badminton)

Strenuous Moving the body all-out or near maximum exertion (swimming laps,
running, rope jumping)
