‘’Media and Information is very powerful and we must use it properly and responsibly.’’

The power of media and information in today’s society is undeniably present, useful, fit
to the mass and very contagious, especially for its users who are virtually linked quite often, and
communicating in media and gathering information such as news can travel faster compared in
the past due to the advancement of technology and the internet connection.

Media and information is two types of terminologies that are combined together and it
is considered as the most powerful tool in providing information to its users especially in the
digital world. As a student, I can say that media is used in our daily lives whether we woke up in
the morning, eating breakfast or before we go to bed, we usually use media because we are
eager to gather information in a small amount of time whether it is from Google and other
social media apps like Twitter, Tik-tok and Facebook. Media and information can also have the
power to inform, communicate, influence and entertain its user and it may also have the
capability in shaping every user’s lives, a good example of this is the advertisements shown in
Television and videos that are uploaded in the web can directly affect the viewers whether the
content is positive or negative it would still have a impact. Some information in media contains
violence or any inappropriate context that may affect the young children who are users of
media also, they might think that this information that they gathered is correct especially if
they don’t have proper guidance by their parents so the best thing that we could do as a good
citizen is to refrain sharing false information in the web because there is no restriction and it is
open for all ages.

In the internet, there is no limit or censorship when it comes in sharing information

whether it is false or legit, oftentimes bad users use this advantage to spread fake news that
would deeply affect the community and may cause global panic, so the best thing what we can
do as a netizen is we must first authenticate the information that we gathered and confirm it
whether it is real or fake before sharing it to the public and in the web, a good example of this
is we must validate the information by browsing information from reliable resources and if it
about news perhaps, we must watch first news that are coming from legitimate news stations
before posting and sharing it. Media and information in the internet can also lead to scams
wherein involvement of money is the usual the cause of scams or it can also be the case of
stolen identity. The power of media in decimating news must also given attention too because
some news stations are producing fake news in order to confuse the public on what
information is legitimate or hoax, they have the power to manipulate information making
viewers to believe on the information they shared but all of those misconceptions can be
prevented if we apply our ability in media information literacy by legit checking first the
information that we gathered by reading different sources or viewing different news station or
in other words, me must check the origin of the information to avoid fallacy.

In using media we must follow rules and etiquettes in order to be a responsible user and
we must be very careful in sharing information because it is very powerful and we must not
abuse it in any cases. We must learn to grow and turn ourselves as responsible users because
media has two sides it is either the positive or negative side and we must always take this in
mind, media can help us and it can also have the ability to harm and destroy us.
