Directions: State a brief history or discovery that brought about the invention or discovery of
the things stated below. State their contributions in our scientific development.

a. Smart Phones
IBM invented the first smartphone, which was available for purchase in 1994.
The Simon Personal Communicator was its name (SPC). The device had a few features
that were later standard in every smartphone that came after it, despite not being
particularly small and sleek.
The impact of smartphones on society has been extensive. In the information
era, it has been crucial in enabling people to telecommute and live and work wherever
they choose.
b. Microscope
In the 13th century, grinding glass for eyeglasses and magnifying glasses was a
widespread practice. Several Dutch lens makers created magnifying devices in the late
16th century, but Galileo Galilei created the first one known as a microscope in 1609.
Zaccharias Janssen and Hans Lipperhey, two Dutch eyeglass manufacturers, are
credited as having invented the compound microscope.
Microscopes have enabled scientists, researchers, and students to observe the
tiniest components of fungus, animals, and plants as well as to analyze the structure of
cells.
c. Internet
According to my research, the first workable prototype of the Internet came in the
late 1960s with the creation of ARPANET, or the Advanced Research Projects Agency
Network. Originally funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, ARPANET used packet
switching to allow multiple computers to communicate on a single network.
They go on to say that using the Internet can boost critical thinking and research
abilities in students, stimulate autonomous or group learning, boost motivation, boost
self-confidence, and increase teaching strategies.
d. Processed Food
To serve military needs, modern food processing technology was mostly created
in the 19th and 20th centuries. Nicolas Appert created a vacuum bottling method in 1809
to provide food for French troops, and this helped Peter Durand develop tining and then
canning in 1810. Can goods eventually became a staple all across the world, although
being first costly and somewhat dangerous due to the lead used in cans. Louis Pasteur’s
invention of pasteurization in 1862 marked a significant development in assuring the
microbiological safety of food.
It lengthen the product’s shelf life and assure food safety. The microorganisms
that cause food deterioration and/or foodborne illnesses are either rendered inactive by
a variety of methods such as heating, drying, canning, freezing or have their growth
slowed.
