SO…THAT/ TOO…TO/ SUCH…THAT

So สามารถใช้เป็ นคาเน้นเพือ่ ขยายข้างหน้า คาคุณศัพท์ (adjective) หรือคาวิเศษณ์ (adverb)

หมายถึง มากถึงขนาดนัน้ ทีเดียว, มากเหลือเกิน ตัวอย่างเช่น

So + adjective

- Music is so loud. เพลงเสียงดังมาก

- Tom looks so angry. ทอมดูท่าทางโมโหอย่างมาก

- Ethan is so handsome in that suit. อีธานดูหล่อเหลาเหลือเกินเมือ

่ สวมสูทชุดนัน้

So + adverb

- The teacher spoke so quickly. คุณครูพด

ู เร็วมาก
- Clair sings so well. แคร์รอ
้ งเพลงเพราะเหลือเกิน
- My brother drives so fast. น้องชายของฉันขับรถเร็ว

นอกจากการเน้นด้วย So ดังข้างต้น เราสามารถเติม that เข้าไปด้านหลัง adjective หรือ
adverb จะเป็ นการแสดงถึงผลทีเ่ กิดขึน
้ ว่า so … ทาให้เกิดผลอย่างไรตามมา ซึง่ that นี้
สามารถละได้ ซึง่ มีโครงสร้างดังนี้
So + adjective / adverb + that + clause

ตัวอย่าง So + adjective + that ก็เช่น

- Music is so loud that I can’t study. หรือ

- Music is so loud I can’t study.

หมายความว่า เพลงเสียงดังมากจนฉันอ่านหนังสือไม่รเู้ รื่อง

- Tom looks so angry that no one dares to talk to him. หรือ

- Tom looks so angry no one dares to talk to him.

หมายความว่า ทอมดูท่าทางโมโหอย่างมากจนไม่มใี ครกล้าคุยกับเขา

- Ethan is so handsome in that suit that I can’t take my eyes off him. หรือ

- Ethan is so handsome in that suit I can’t take my eyes off him.

หมายความว่า อีธานดูหล่อเหลาเหลือเกินเมือ่ สวมสูทชุดนัน้ จนฉันละสายตาจากเขาไม่ได้เลย

ถ้าเป็ น So + adverb+ that ก็เช่น
- The teacher spoke so quickly that I couldn’t understand her at all. หรือ

- The teacher spoke so quickly I couldn’t understand her at all.

หมายความว่า คุณครูพดู เร็วมากจนฉันฟั งไม่รเู้ รื่องเลย

- Clair sings so well that they offered her a scholarship at the art school in New York.
หรือ
- Clair sings so well they offered her a scholarship at the art school in New York.

หมายความว่า แคร์รอ้ งเพลงเพราะเหลือเกินจนเธอได้รบั ทุนเรียนทีโ่ รงเรียนศิลปะทีน่ ิวยอร์ก

- My brother drives so fast that he might get an accident someday. หรือ

- My brother drives so fast he might get an accident someday.

หมายความว่า น้องชายของฉันขับรถเร็วซะจนอาจประสบอุบตั เิ หตุเข้าสักวัน

นอกจากนี้เรายังสามารถใช้ในรูป So + adjective / adverb + as to + V1 หมายความ

ว่า อะไรสักอย่างมันมากถึงขนาดที่ เกิดการกระทาในข้างหลัง ตัวอย่างเช่น
- He was so kind as to pay for the meal. = เขาใจดีถงึ ขนาดจ่ายค่าอาหารให้

- I am so stupid as to believe him. = ฉันโง่ถงึ ขนาดไปเชื่อคนอย่างเขา

- Tim ran so fast as to catch up with the thief. = ทิมวิง่ เร็วถึงขนาดไล่ตามโจรไปจนทัน

และเรายังในรูปของ So + adjective + a (an) + นาม (noun)+ that + clause
หมายความว่า อะไรสักอย่างเป็ นคน/สิง่ ที่ ... ถึงขนาดที/่ ซะจน ตัวอย่างเช่น
- John is so generous a man that everyone loves him. = จอห์นเป็ นคนมีน้ าใจซะจนใครๆก็

- Susan is so clever a girl that she won the national mathematics contest. = ซูซานเป็ น

เด็กฉลาดซะจนชนะเลิศการแข่งขันคณิตศาสตร์ระดับชาติ

Such … that เป็ นการเน้น คาคุณศัพท์ (adjective) ซึง่ ต้องตามด้วยคานาม (noun) หมายถึง
ช่าง... อะไรอย่างนี้ มีโครงสร้างดังนี้

Such + a(an) + adjective + noun (คานามนับได้เอกพจน์ )

Such + adjective + noun(s) (คานามพหูพจน์ หรือคานามนับไม่ได้)

ตัวอย่างเช่น
- Such a big house. = ช่างเป็ นบ้านทีใ่ หญ่โตอะไรอย่างนี้

- Such clever people. = พวกเขาช่างฉลาดซะจริง

- Such hot coffee. = กาแฟนี้ช่างร้อนซะจริง

นอกจากนี้เรายังสามารถใช้ในรู ปของ
Such + a(an) + adjective + noun (คานามนับได้เอกพจน์ ) + that + clause

Such + adjective + noun(s) (คานามพหูพจน์ หรือคานามนับไม่ได้) + that + clause

ซึง่ หมายความว่า “ช่าง....ซะจนกระทัง”่ อย่างเช่นตัวอย่างต่อไปนี้

- It is such an interesting book that I can’t stop reading it. = มันเป็ นหนังสือทีน

Too หมายถึง เกินไป ใช้ขยาย คาคุณศัพท์ (adjective) หรือคาวิเศษณ์ (adverb) ตัวอย่างเช่น

- This cake is too sweet for me. เค้กชิน้ นี้หวานเกินไปสาหรับฉัน

- These pants are too big for the boy. กางเกงตัวนี้ใหญ่เกินไปสาหรับเด็กชาย

หรือเราจะใช้ Too + adjective + a (an) + noun (นามนับได้เอกพจน์ ) ก็ได้ตวั อย่างเช่น

- This is too boring a film for me. ภาพยนตร์เรือ่ งนี้น่าเบื่อเกินไปสาหรับฉัน

- This is too difficult a test for him. ข้อสอบนี้ยากเกินไปสาหรับเขา
- That is too expensive a skirt for Jane. กระโปรงตัวนี้แพงเกินไปสาหรับเจน

และหากเราใช้ Too + adjective / adverb + to + V1 แล้วนัน้ มันจะมีความหมายว่า

อะไรสักอย่างมันเกินกว่าทีจ่ ะทาอะไรได้ ตัวอย่างเช่น
