CASE ANALYSIS NO. 1

ESCAPED PRISONER

QUESTIONS:

1. Should Mrs. Jones report Mr. Thompson to the police and have him sent back to prison? Why or
why not?

I think Mr. Thompson should be reported back to the police because he still need to pay the
crime he committed and knowing he escaped from the police 8 years ago, that added him another
crime even though he did good things as he worked hard outside for him to have a new life and even
helped others. It does lessen his sin to the eyes of God but the thought of him as an escaped
prisoner will still remain. Mrs. Jones have the duty and responsibility to report him to the police
because as a citizen of the community, when one has been convicted to a crime the netizens has the
obligation to help the authorities configure the offender or the suspects so that every victim will
have their justice right and humane. So even though Mr. Thompson is now doing good things to
others and completely changed his perspectives, the crime he committed from the past is still on the
hands of the authorities and he needs to face them. Maybe the authorities find out his righteous
doings and sentenced him to have a complete freedom or lessen his conviction to something lower
than his passed sin. If that happens, at least Mr. Thompson still able to pay his sin, had a new
beginnings and cleared out his name.

2. Hasn’t Mr. Thompson been good enough for such a long time to prove he isn’t a bad person?

Even though Mr. Thompson is now doing good things to others and completely changed his
perspectives as he was before, he still has the obligation to pay his crime and have his victim the
justice they deserve. It did lessen and prove to others that he is not a bad person but the record of
him as a convicted person and as an escaped prisoner will still remain and that is what he needed to
clear out rather than remain it to the hands of the authorities and fake everyone that he is a clean
man. He may prove to others that he’s been doing good enough for such a long time and he is not a
bad person but to the eyes of the victims, he is still a prisoner and a convicted person who needs to
pay his crime. Justice should be fair to everyone. And escaping the prison should not be tolerated
even after doing good things.

3. Has Mr. Thompson really paid his debt to society?

Mr. Thompson paid his debt to society as he proved that he worked hard to helped others.
Charity works is good to the eyes of God and among others but when one is figured out as an
escaped convicted prisoner, he is still viewed as a prisoner who still needs to pay and clear his name
even with his good deeds he did to the society. His good doings may view as the new changes to Mr.
Thompson and that the authorities should be the one who decides whether he will remain outside
or he should go back inside the prison to pay his crime. Maybe later on, the authorities will find out
that Mr. Thompson really did good things to the society through helping others and do charitable
works and by that, the sentence of Mr. Thompson might be lessen by the police. Eventually, he will
go outside again and set free. There he can continue doing good things to others and help more
charities. He will be seen as a good person with clear conscience not just on the eyes of God but to
the whole community.
4. Was Mrs. Jones a good friend of Mr. Thompson? What benefits would prisons be apart from
society, especially for a charitable man?

As to Mrs. Jones on the other hands, she also did a good job in turning over Mr. Thompson to
the police. This does not define her as the bad one because she is only doing her responsibilities to
the community. Maybe Mrs. Jones was a good friend to Mr. Thompson because knowing that she
knows him and knows his personal story, Mrs. Jones also knows what to do and what is just and
humane to the society even he sees Mr. Thompson as a changed man already. The benefits of a
prisoner if he is apart from the society is that, he will be able to pay his crime to the specified victim
other than being a charitable man. The crime he committed to a one specific person is also a crime
to everyone that is why we all have the body of laws to abide and is applicable to every netizens and
those who disobey the laws should be punished also by laws. No one can escape that even by doing
good especially to the thought of being an escaped prisoner.

5. Would going to prison do any good for Mr. Thompson or protect anybody?

If Mr. Thompson is sent back to prison, it will definitely clear out his name and sees him as a man
who face his crime rather an escaped one. With that thought, his name will clear out to the
authorities and be able to pay the victim righteous justice because that is what everybody deserves.
We all know that even Mr. Thompson will be sent back inside the prison, he will still be able to go
out soon if the authorities lessen his sentence. After that, he will also be able to continue doing
charitable works to others and live his life peacefully without a burden and fright to others that will
figure out that he is an escaped prisoner. After all, he will be able to prove to everybody that he is a
changed man now even after escaping the prison and before sending back to the authorities. Mr.
Thompson will surely be appreciated by the people he helped more and trust him now more. It will
harm nobody now and the victim he offended will be served with justice.
CASE ANALYSIS NO. 2

THE DOCTOR’S DILEMMA

Most Important:

Whether only God should decide when a person’s life should end.

This statement gives me a meaning that God is only the powerful one among all. He is the
one who gives life and He is the one who will decide when will a person’s life should end. Living here
on earth has a meaning and a purpose to every mankind. God gives the meaning of life where one is
not responsible or above among all to take one’s life. We all live in a certainty where we achieve
good things for us. We have a purpose, and that is to live. Life has been bestowed upon us by the
almighty and we all must value it. The journey of life may not always be smooth but we must keep
going and stay positive all the times. No one has the hands to end someone’s life and that is a sin in
the eyes of God. A person’s life is what has given to us where no one can cease. God gives us all time
and that we should value.

Second Important:

Whether the woman’s family is in favor of giving her the overdose or not.

When a person’s life is in critical condition where even a doctor cannot ease or cure it, the
person might go to the thought of ending her life so that she can no longer feel the pain and suffer.
But the role of the family comes in this situation. Whether they will agree on giving her up so that
she can be no longer in pain or compel to have her medicated until her last breath. A doctor’s
decision will never be enough for the situation like this in a family. But even the family does not have
the role of this because it is on the hands of the almighty but times like may be crucial that is why we
call a certain thing called “mercy killing” the process where ending one’s life is a choice of the
majority so that the pain will no longer be there to the person. In times like this, when a person is
seen as helpless and powerless as they can be, this option is chosen to the family and the person
itself. When this time comes, it means to them that the suffering is enough and they already accept
it rather than seeing the person be more hurt and in pain.

Third Most Important:

What is the value of death prior to society’s perspective on personal values?

Death is where one’s life come to an end. It happens to every living thing. When one dies, it
means that all the senses and all those feelings is now gone and through. Death means there is no
turning back. The person dies eternally peaceful. That is every person here on earth must value life
and live their life to the fullest. As we stay here on earth we must do things that will pleasure us. We
must do good things and learn good values. We have our own personal value and that is what why
we are here on earth. God gives us the blessing of living. God gives us the meaning of life that is to
treasure and not to ruin it. We see death as our final destination where we can no longer do things
that will allow us to feel pleasure.
Fourth Most Important:

Can society allow suicides or mercy killing and still protect the lives of individuals who want to live?

In my own opinion, a society who protect the lives of individuals who want to live does not
support the idea of suicide or mercy killing. Because they value the meaning of life that was given by
God. They advocate those people who are suffering from depression but still wants to live their lives.
That is why they do not allow suicides or mercy killing to anyone. A person who protects life does
not think of ending one’s life. I know they even share thoughts and values to anyone who are in
need. The value of life to someone who is in pain thinks that they should end it, but that is not the
key or solution. If someone who are in pain, God’s blessings will come and will protect us. Suicides or
mercy killing is a sin in the eyes of God. So why end it, if God gives it to us beautifully and purposeful.
We just have to see the other side of living. Even mercy killing for some thinks it is their way of
emancipating away the pain of a person who is in severe pain and helpless. But for someone who is
full of hopes and trust, it is never a solution.
