If you cannot see me in person, just send me an email at akhaliq@nlc.bc.ca from your
personal email account with your course syllabus in the subject line MGMT 104. I reply
quickly there. I don't check D2L on weekends and don't read emails without course
number in the subject line. To discuss any group conflicts, please follow the guideline
given below in the course syllabus.

Participation
Multiple questions are asked during lectures related to class material. The instructor
does not adjust participation marks after 24 hours of making them online on D2L. Class
group work or attendance may also be taken for participation marks when needed.

Test
Test Chapters: 1-4
The quiz will cover material from textbooks, D2L, lectures and class discussions.
Questions: MCQ or true and false. Please bring your laptop to attempt the online quiz.

Group Project Presentation

Please form a group of 4-6 members of your choice. Let the instructor know who the
leader of the group is. The leader needs to provide a personal email/cell phone number
to the instructor and keep her update when required. In the case of group conflicts,
inform the instructor ASAP. The instructor will not help you to resolve any disputes 48
hours before the project due date. You are mature and sensible to handle the last-minute
problems. Group conflicts will give you a real-life test where you need to deal with people
of different mindsets, backgrounds, etc.

Themes to choose from:

1- Leadership
2- Human Resoruce Management
3- Organizational Behaviour
4- Marketing
5- Strategy
6- Change Management
7- Decision Making

Your Group Project should include:

1. A worksheet that shows what part belongs to who. If a student has provided you
with half of the part, you must write names of those students who have correctly
worked on that part. For example, Jason and Maddy took care of the editing of the
3

video.
2. Class Presentation 10-12 minutes long
3. Individual reflections if any group conflicts

Helpful hints: Create a situation using What, Where, Which, Whom, Why, and How
questions about the theme in the presentation. You must develop your content about the
presentation. You can do role play, talk about a company, or your topic, make an
advertisement. Please consult with your instructor if you have a trouble coming up with a
decision.

Group Presentation
Paste the Prezi link on the cover page. Keep your Prezi publicly available. Prezi title:
Group number, MGMT 104, Title Topic. If you have any group conflicts, talk to the
Instructor right away or at least 64 hours (including weekends) before the presentation is
due. The Instructor is here to help and support you. After 64 hours, it is your
responsibility to resolve conflicts among yourselves. You don’t need to reference
pictures or put in-text citation in slides. The second last slide before thank you will have
your complete APA list of references. Please adjust your font so all references are fit on
one slide.

Critical Points to Remember for Presentation…

 Only the team leader from the group will submit a soft copy on a D2L. The Instructor
will mark the latest version submitted on Dropbox.
 Prezi is free to use; you need to make an account on at https://prezi.com/login/

 If you notice that Prezi and your written assignments are different, this is normal.
Don't panic.
 Don't write long sentences with a too-small font with the format and make
grammatical errors. Don't use dark backgrounds: black, grey, burgundy or royal blue.
 After thank you and questions slide, use alphabetical APA reference.
 Use the quality of words, not the quantity of words.

Individual Reflection
If you have no group conflicts, the Instructor does not require individual reflection. If you
have group conflicts, please follow the instructions below.
All members must submit the reflections. Not submitting the reflection will cost the
individual a 2% deduction. Please email the Instructor with direct answers. The email is
kept confidential. Subject line: Group #, your first name, Individual Reflection.
1. What went wrong in the group?
2. What character did you play to resolve the issues?
3. Write each student's name on the parts you think they have genuinely worked.
4. What mark would you give to this particular student and the rest of the group, and
why?
5. What did you learn from this group conflict, and what would you do differently in
the future?
Sample
1- I learned how to work in a group with different thoughts and backgrounds. I learned
how to get along with people and make sure that the time work gets done on time.
2- I wish I had managed my time better and come up with more research points under
the XYZ section.
Student A 10/20 – only work in this section, poorly written and didn't show up in meeting
3,4 and phone calls
Student B 12/20 – only work in this section with a lot of grammatical errors and didn't
show up in meeting 3
Student C 18/20 – is a coordinator, work on this section and showed up in all the
meetings
Student D (myself) 15/ 20 - only work in this section and left from meeting 2 and 3 early
and didn't reply to messages

Late Assignment
 Submitting work before 11:59 PM means you have submitted work on time.
 Submitting work at 12:00 AM or after means you have submitted work late.
In the interest of fairness to the other members of the class, there will be a penalty of
20% per day deduction for late assignments from your final grade of the assignment. For
example, if your final grade is 12/15 and your assignment is 2 days late, you will receive
5

6/15. Exceptions may be made for those experiencing medical or personal emergencies
such as loss of the immediate family (for documented /extreme situations only). In this
situation, students must still inform their instructor, or the 20% rule will be
implemented. Any assignment will NOT be accepted if it is over 2 days past due date
except under the above-mentioned circumstances. You need to inform the instructor if
you are submitting the assignment late. No feedback will be provided for late
submissions.

Exams
The student must pass an invigilated component of the course. You must attempt the
final exam to pass the course. Please inform the instructor immediately if there are exam
schedule conflicts. As a general rule, deferred exams are only granted for documented
medical causes or a loss in the immediate family. Deferred exams will be written within
6 days after the exam date. In that case, it is the student's responsibility to contact the
instructor before the scheduled exam to negotiate other arrangements. Makeup exams
will generally be not held unless students have genuine medical causes or extenuating
circumstances. Evidence needs to be provided to the instructor promptly (before the
exam or within two working days of the date of the exam).
Exams are based on instructor notes, class discussions, assignments,
PowerPoint slides, D2L resources, and the textbook. The midterm and final exams
are not cumulative. Rewrites to improve the grades are not allowed.

Exams Etiquettes
If you are more than 5 minutes late when the exam has started, you will not be allowed
to write the exam and will receive a zero. You are not allowed to cover the head except
for religious reasons. Anyone who is found cheating, looking at other student's answer
sheets, talking and using other gestures (including smiles) will be asked to leave the
classroom right away. His/her answer booklet will receive a zero. No arguments!
Please talk to the chair or dean regarding this if you want to justify your cause. You are
only allowed to have a drink, writing tools, and your student id on your table. Please turn
off your cell phones and leave them in your bags in front of the exam room on
your responsibility. If you don't fill up the scantron with a pencil correctly or don’t turn
off your cell phone, you will receive a 2 percent deduction on the final grade of the exam.
You will not be allowed to attempt the exam without a valid student or government-
issued id. Please do not resist while giving away your answer booklet to the instructor or
the invigilator at the end; it is considered being unfair and taking more time than your
classmates. You may receive a cheating letter for this act.

Plagiarism Policy
When plagiarism occurs in a particular section, that student will be penalized under the
honesty policy. An overall grade deduction on the assignment will also be levied. In other
words, if only one person has plagiarized, that person will receive the main plagiarism
deduction and penalty under the honesty policy. The whole group will also receive a
grade deduction. Please review NLC's Honesty policy, given on the college website, and
note that plagiarism is a serious academic offence that grounds for failure of a course or
even expulsion from Northern Lights College. To avoid such situations, please learn and
follow APA guidelines for citing sources. Honesty guidelines are also given on the

Classroom Etiquettes
Please avoid the following:
 The instructor will announce on D2L or send emails if the class is cancelled.
 Distractions: late arrivals to class, talking during a lecture while instructor or other
students are presenting and using a cell phone is not allowed. Also,
communication with other individuals via connectable devices to the internet is not
allowed unless specifically permitted by the instructor. Students who are creating
any such disciplinary problems may be asked to leave the classroom. Repeated

 Topics covered in this course may stimulate debates. Please remember to respect
different viewpoints, maintain a positive and distraction-free learning environment
in the classroom, as per college rules and policies.
 Absences will have a significant negative effect on your overall performance. It is
the student's responsibility for collecting any classroom handouts that are missed
due to absence. Being absent in any class and then not knowing about any
updates is not an excuse.

Detailed Course Content, Topics, and Tentative Schedule

The course content schedule may subject to change, and students will be informed of
any required changes. PowerPoint slides for the entire chapters are available on D2L.
The students are encouraged to read the relevant chapters from the textbook before
they come to class. Due to the limited time available for the class lecture, the instructor
might skip some points (which directly do not relate to the topic) or present a summary of
subtopics in some cases. It is the students' responsibility to go through the details
7

of chapters as their readings. Please read the textbook, slides, publications in the
library, and consult the instructor and campus librarian for additional reference books,
journals, and magazines.
