Globalization is the process whereby different parts of the world become more

connected and interdependent. It involves sharing things like products, ideas, and culture
across borders, making the world more interconnected. It also makes our world smaller,
not in a way wherein the size of our planet decreases, but in a way wherein we can easily
connect or communicate with different parts of the world. Religious practices and beliefs
are also aspects of globalization. Some countries are unified by having the same religion
or belief. For example, the Philippines, Spain, Vatican City, Italy, Portugal, etc., are
Catholic, while Japan, Thailand, South Korea, and many more follow Buddhism. The
effect of sharing the same religious beliefs is that their cultures are almost identical
because religion has a significant impact on our culture. Therefore, it is not difficult for
us to adjust and practice their cultures if we ever visit a country with the same religion as
ours.

From my perspective, I learned in my previous history class that the first

globalization occurred in the 1500s when Ferdinand Magellan led the first voyage around
the world. This voyage can be considered a form of globalization because they visited not
just one but many countries to search for spices and to introduce their religion,
Christianity. Our country, the Philippines, was also one of the countries they visited to
introduce their religion, and until now, we still adapt the cultures, religion, and beliefs
they introduced to us. Because of the similarities with other countries in terms of
religious practices and beliefs, it is easy for us to connect and practice their cultures when
we want to visit a country with the same religion as ours. However, I'm not saying that
we are not allowed to visit a country with different religious beliefs. We can still learn
and adapt to their cultures so that we can effectively communicate with them. Despite
living in different parts of the world, having different cultures, religions, and beliefs, it is
not a barrier that prevents us from connecting. Globalization works in many ways, not
just in cultures, so despite our differences, we are still unified as one.
