THE BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

INTRODUCTION

Self-confidence is a crucial factor in determining an individual's

success in various aspects of life including academic performance. It is the

belief in one's ability to succeed, which influence motivation, presistance and

setback.

Meanwhile academic performance refers to students achievements

in values educational activities, assessment and examination. It encompasses

a broad spectrum of skills and outcomes, including grades, test scores ,class

participation, and overall understanding of academic content academic

performance is a comprehensive measure of students ability to grasp, apply

and demonstrate knowledge in the context of normal education.

Self-confidence, a key factor in academic success, is facing a global

crisis, impacting students from all backgrounds and socioeconomic

backgrounds. Low self-confidence hinders engagement and understanding,

impacting families, communities, and economies. Addressing this requires

fostering supportive learning environments, building self-awareness through

mindfulness practices, and providing mental health support for students

struggling with low self-esteem. Unlocking self-confidence empowers students

to reach their full potential

Additionally Low self-confidence have is a significant issue in our

nation, hindering academic performance and limiting students' potential. It

affects students from all backgrounds, impacting their futures and the nation's

success. To address this, educators must create nurturing learning

environments, parents and families should build self-awareness, and mental

health professionals should be available to help students overcome anxieties.

By unlocking the hidden power of self-confidence, we can empower students

to become confident, resilient, and capable individuals, contributing to a brighter

future for ourselves and our nation.

Low self-confidence is a significant barrier to students' academic

professionals. Investing in students' self-confidence empowers them to become

confident, resilient, and capable individuals, contributing to a brighter future for

themselves and the community. A safe, valued, and empowered community is

essential for a thriving future.

Theoretical framework

Attribution theory by Frits Heider(2018)

This theory explains how individuals explain their successes and

failures. Students with high self-confidence are more likely to attribute their

successes to their own abilities and effort, rather than external factors like luck.

This internal attribution creates a positive feedback loop, further enhancing self-

confidence and motivation. Conversely, students with low self-confidence are

more likely to attribute their failures to internal factors like lack of ability, leading

to decreased motivation and performance.

Social Cognitive theory by Albert bandura (2022)

This theory emphasizes the role of social learning in shaping self-

confidence. Students learn about their abilities by observing others, including

peers, teachers, and family members. Positive interactions and encouragement

from these individuals can help build confidence, while negative experiences

can lead to decreased confidence.

Self Determination theory by Edward Deci and Richard Ryan (2018)

This theory posits that intrinsic motivation, driven by interest and

enjoyment, is more effective for sustained learning and achievement than

extrinsic motivation, driven by rewards or external pressure. Self-confident

students are more likely to experience intrinsic motivation, engaging in learning

because they find it enjoyable and meaningful. This leads to deeper

understanding, better retention of information, and ultimately, improved

academic performance
