Chapter III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter contains the overall design and methodology that were used in

conducting this study. This includes research design, the research environment,

research respondents and research instrument.

Research Design

The researchers used the experimental design due to two different ideas

combined to create an effective and inexpensive product to help the people be

alarmed if there is a fire. Experimental because the idea was only created to test

the effectivity of the wind energy to be the source of power for the fire alarm.

Unlike the regular fire alarms that can be bought in the market, it is costly so with

its power source but in this experimentation, it will prove to have a long-term

power source, the wind energy.

Research Environment

The study is conducted in Colegio de San Francisco Javier Inc. Palompon,

Leyte. The said school was first run by the Daughters of Charity but then vested

to the Archdiocese of Palo later. The school is provided with technological

equipment due to the Diwa Company such as the television in every classroom

to help the discussion fast but effective so with in the Computer laboratory, each

student had an account were they can have their exams, quizzes, assignments,

etc. the school also had this ID system in which a tap of your ID to the sensor

and it will automatically send a message to your parent that you have arrived the

school.

Research Instrument

In the experimentation, the following materials and components where used:

Materials Quantity Price per Quantity

Wire 1 meter 3

Dynamo 1 piece 150

PVC male 1 piece 6

Stick Glue 3 pieces 7

Impeller 5 pieces 21

Rubber 1 piece 15

transformer 1 piece 350

IRF 1 piece 60

Heat sink 1 piece 10

Capacitor 1 piece 15

Equipment Used:

1. Soldering Iron & Lead

2. Glue gun

3. Caps

4. Used CD

5. Plank

Research Procedure

In the experimentation, the following procedure where followed:

1. Make a small tower for the wind generator through the plank as the base

and PVCs as the stand.

2. Connect it to the propeller from the impellers attached to a big cap.

3. Attach it to the rotation cap from two discs to form a canal-like with a

rubber band in it connecting to the dynamo.

4. Join the dynamo to the input of the generator.

5. For the generator, paste the power transistor to the heat sink, then

connect the resistors to the power transistors.

6. Connect the two power transistors to the input of the transformer.

7. Put an outlet to the output of the transformer.

Data Gathering Procedure

As the researchers go on with the said project, the data is gathered

through the guiding questions from the statement of the problem and in order to

get the data, experimentations or test has been done to the product to see that

the product is successful or functional.
