The Folding Magic Cube

The folding magic cube, also known as the infinity cube or endless cube, was first invented in
the early 1970s by Larry Nichols. It was originally created as a paper puzzle, but has since been
adapted into various forms, including plastic and metal versions. The cube is designed to fold
and unfold in a continuous loop, with each side connected to the next in an endless pattern. The
folding magic cube has been popularized in recent years as a stress-relieving toy and fidget tool.
It relieves nervousness and anxiety while doing a task or simply waiting. It helps a fidgeter focus
on the task at hand while lessening bad fidgeting habits such as nail and pen biting, leg shaking
and knuckle cracking. It’s also great to simply pass time.
I am going to make a folding magic cube. My materials will consist of eight paper, tape, glue
and photos. The tool that I will be using will be scissors, ruler and pencil.
Take a piece of paper. Create a long rectangle in the center of the paper and subdivide it into
four equal squares with a diameter of 2 inches each. To the left of the first square from the top,
draw another square that is equal in size. Draw another square to the right of the fourth square
from the top. Now it should look like a cross with six equal sized squares and the longest part
should be closest to you. With scissors, cut along the outside edges of the shape. It is important
to fold the paper correctly. Follow along the inside lines and fold the paper inward. Align the
folds. The square on the very bottom should be folded so it is parallel or directly across from the
square that was in the middle. Tape all of the sides together and do it for eight times.
Start by creating the hinges that make this folding magic cube move around. You will tape
hinges in 8 different places. You will tape across the blocks to combine the first cube and second
cube. You will need to tape on the front and the back of each set of blocks to reinforce them. Use
smaller pieces of tape because the glue will stick to the paper, but not the tape as well. The
hinges with the first cube and fourth cube will tape horizontally and the others will be taped
vertically. Once those hinges are done, you will have two more on the top of the cube to combine
them all together. Remember to tape from and back on all of them so they stay together.
As soon as I get done making the folding magic cube. I want to add innovation to it by adding
photos. We are going to start with the outside of the cube. You will need 6 of the square photos.
After you are done cutting, stick them onto the cube. Now turn the cube so that the front is in the
back and the top in the bottom. Cut the pictures for the back, left and bottom as shown in the
fourth picture and stick them on the cube.
Place the cube, so that the top is on the top again and open it as shown in the first picture. For
the middle you will need a picture that has length of 4 cubes and the height of two. Cut it and
fold it as shown in the second picture and stick it onto the cubes. Open the cube as shown in the
third picture, cut your second big picture as shown in the fourth image. Open it up in the middle
again, cut a smaller image as shown in the fifth picture and stick it on the cube. Turn the cube
around and stick the last picture on the cube.
