SCIENTIFIC METHOD

Observation:

We have observed that gumamela petals wilt quickly when they are picked from the tree, so we
are looking for a solution/substance that can prolong its wilting.

*In water, we observed that the gumamela petals is become softer and slightly hydrated.

* In soda, we observed that the petals changed color or become slightly discolored due to the
acidic nature of soda.

*Lastly, In soda we observed that the petals may underho a similar reaction as with soda, where
the acidic nature of the vinegar causes some color changes or slight discoloration.

Question:

1. What is the purpose of soaking gumamela petals in soda, water, and vinegar?

2. How long should the petals be soaked in each liquid?

3. What changes or effects are expected after soaking the petals in these liquids?

Hypothesis:

In soaking gumamela petals in water it may extract some of their natural compounds, while
soda could potentially influence color or texture due to its acidity, and vinegar might have an
impact on the pH and overall characteristics of the petals. The actual outcome would depend on
various factors like concentration and duration of soaking.

Experiment:
Vinegar
Water Soda
Analysis:

Overall, of these reactions can give insight into the potential effects of different liquids on plant
materials, and can be used to understand how different substances interact with organic matter.
This kind of experiment can be used to teach concepts related to plant biology and the effects of
various substances on living organisms.

Conclusion:

After soaking the gumamela petals in water, soda, and vinegar, We learned that the colors of
the petals changed. The water did not have a significant effect on the petals, but the soda caused
the petals to lose their color and turn translucent. The vinegar also caused the petals to change
color and become wilted. This experiment showed that different liquids can have different
effects on natural materials such as gumamela petals. To sum up, putting gumamela petals in
water won't do much, they might absorb some water. If you use vinegar, expect changes like
color and texture because of the acidity. Soda could also cause effects due to its ingredients.
