TEST: Handling data 1&2, Number 3

Class: 22/1/2019

Name: Solutions GRADE: /

1. The mean score of ten tests is 82.2 cm. The mean score of nine of them is 83. What is
the score of the 10th test?

10 ×82.2=822 the total sum of all ten students.

9 × 83=747 the total sum of nine of them.

Thus, the ten student scored 822−747=75

2. A teacher conducted a mental arithmetic test for 19 students and the marks out of 10
are shown in the table.

Mark Frequency f∙x

5 3 3 ×5=15
6 2 2 ×6=12
7 0 0 ×7=0
8 5 5 ×8=40
9 5 5 ×9=45
10 4 4 ×10=40

∑ f =19 ∑ fx=152
Find the mean, median and mode.

Mean =
∑ fx = 152 =8
∑ f 19

Median =
∑ f = 19 . Hence, we need to take the 10th position term. Which is mark 8.

Mode = The mark that appears more often is 8 and 9 (mode can be more than one
number).

3. The table gives the number of words in each sentence of a page in a book.

Number Frequency Mid-point (x) f∙x

of words (f)
1-5 6 1+ 5 6 ×3=18
=3
2
6-10 5 8 40
11-15 4 13 52
16-20 2 18 36
21-25 3 23 69
∑ f =20 ∑ fx=215

Work out an estimate for the mean number of words in a sentence.

∑ fx = 215 =10.75
∑ f 20
Extra

Median: =
∑ f = 20 =10. If the number is whole, we should take the 10th and 11th
2 2
position. In this case the median number lies in the group 6-10.

Mode: the group that appears more often is 6-10.

4. Find the HCF and LCM of and .

H.C.F is common bases (prime factors) to lowest power : 5 x 3 y 2

L.C.M all different bases to their highest power: 60 x 5 y 4
