1 CHAPTER 1 - EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Green Open Space both in scale and location is essential for urban living.
Accessibility, distribution, and availability of open space are major concerns for cities.
Open space is a necessity and not a luxury. Due to ongoing urbanization trend
worldwide, the distance between city inhabitants and nature is increasing. Urban
greenery is one of the ways to bridge this gap between people and nature. Most of
the Indian cities are far behind in this. High population density is one of the reasons for
underdevelopment of urban greenery sector. With no planning, cities will be stressed
with environmental challenges. Open space exists at all scales, in many forms, and
under many jurisdictions. Along with residential, commercial, industrial, and
transportation, open space is a basic type of land use. Apart from open space, the
rest are given due attention for progress, and it is neglected since it responds to
intangible demands such as natural, recreational, and cultural needs. Planning, on
the other hand, may aid in the preservation of open space by providing locations for
wildlife habitat, wilderness protection, ground water retention, air oxygenation, active
recreational use, historic landscapes, and so on. To maintain urban quality, public
open space is required. However, differences in actual and intended open space
use, as well as inequalities in their distribution, point to the necessity to assess the
ground realities that influence open space distribution and use. The velocity with
which cities are developing and the resulting increase in population puts open space
under severe strain today. As a result, professionals must anticipate and identify the
fundamental principles of change that open space undergoes in order to intervene
effectively. Green spaces are becoming increasingly important in urban social-
ecological systems, according to both policy and science. The enhancement of
urban green space or urban forests is one of the ways, to mitigate the adverse effects
of urbanization in a sustainable manner, making cities more attractive and
comfortable to live in.

1.1 History of Green Space Development

The concept of connected green areas emerged at the beginning of the

20th century. Initially this was in the form of green belts, like that surrounding the city of
Vienna, while later, as a result of the persistent growth of cities and traffic, it developed
more in the form of radials, such as in Berlin.

ABR Architecture& Associates Pvt. Ltd Page 5

DETAIL PROJECT REPORT OF BAL UDHYAN PARK, DINDORI DEVELOPMENT

Even then, together with recreation, urban ventilation was the most important reason
for creating these green belts of woodland and meadows around towns and cities.
Some parts of the green belts and radials were used for agricultural purposes.
Agriculture was a backdrop for middle-class recreation

1.2 Need

A simple walk in the park can boost a child's ability to concentrate greatly. Green
vistas from school windows have been linked to better academic performance.
Children who grow up in greener communities are more likely to be depressed,
stressed, and overall healthier and happier.

Green space has yet to be widely defined, and no internationally acknowledged

minimum standards for green space in cities exist. Green space is defined as
vegetated land at its most basic level. Public and private parks, grassy lawns, home
and community gardens, playgrounds, agricultural land, overgrown vacant lots,
street trees, roadside verges, and green roofs are all examples of green space.

Greener vistas and surrounds, as well as time spent in green places, provide various
mental, physical, and social developmental benefits for children, promoting their
development as environmentally conscious and responsible citizens. Furthermore,
when green spaces are equally accessible, they help to lessen health disparities
among children from low-income families.

Some of the benefits for children, from infancy to adolescence, include:

 Higher birth weight

 More physical activity
 Better balance and motor coordination
 Less likely to develop nearsightedness
 Improve cognitive development and academic performance
 Reduced parenting stress
 Increased concern for nature
 Stronger neighborhood social cohesion
 Fewer behavioral and social problems
 Increased mental health and well-being and reduced stress and depression,
including in adverse circumstances such as humanitarian contexts

2 CHAPTER 3 PROJECT BACKGROUND

AMRUT 2.0 is a step towards Aatma Nirbhar Bharat with aim of making the cities 'water
secure' and providing functional water tap connections to all households. This will be
achieved through circular economy of water by effecting water source conservation,
rejuvenation of water bodies and wells, recycle/ reuse of treated used water, and
rainwater harvesting by involving community at large. This Mission will be run as
people’s program i.e. Jan Aandolan. Mission also targets to provide 100% sewage/
septage management in 500 AMRUT cities.

Mission will focus on empowering States/ UTs and cities for efficient implementation of
projects in the spirit of cooperative and competitive federalism by providing flexibility
to the States/ UTs to formulate, plan and implement the projects. CA released can be
utilized for projects in any of the ULBs as per physical/ financial progress of the projects.

2.1 Approaches to AMRUT 2.0

ULBs will submit detailed City Water Balance Plans (CWBPs) and City Water Action
Plans (CWAPs) through online portal covering proposed projects in the thrust areas.
The projects will be prioritized based on following outcomes with the focus on
improving sustainability and efficiency in water sector:
i. Universal coverage of water supply.
ii. Sewerage, septage management and recycle/ reuse of treated used
water; and
iii. Rejuvenation of water bodies (including urban wetland) and creation of
green spaces.

2.2 Background:
The targets set under AMRUT mission is to address the issue of fast dwindling green
spaces and living pockets in the growing cities. The benchmarks set in this mission are
to achieve at least 15% of the ULB area as green spaces for public use. For this
purpose, a detailed plan has been set up. The details of the Mission components for
Green Space sector are given below.

 Assess the Service Level Gap.

 Bridge the Gap
 Rejuvenation of at least one park/Development of New Park.

2.3 Scope of Work:

The scope of work for this report is to develop a plan and design a suitable green
space in the available open spaces at DINDORI. On the basis of approved plan,
consideration and the needs of society, the cost for the development of the park is to
be estimated as a part of Detailed Project Report.

 Drainage System:-
Drainage system in this Park is needed and proposed.

2.4 Survey and Investigation:

For the purpose of planning and designing of new Park, PDMC team visited the town
along with ULB officers. The initial assessment of the site was done. It was found that
the grounds are more or less levels and edges defined by the access roads. The
DINDORI Nagar Parishad is still developing, residents are slowly moving in. A
topographical survey was carried out within the boundary of park.

2.5 Feasibility Study:

According to the availability of land and need of the society, the proposal for the
development of green space at DINDORI, seems to be feasible. The proposed park
will provide leisure outdoor spaces for the residents and children and sit out spaces for
the elderly.

2.6 Component of Green Spaces & Parks:

The detailed design of parks and open space in new Park, DINDORI are based on end
user survey. There are different spaces for walking, Meditation, sit out space for elders.

3 CHAPTER 2 – OBJECTIVE
3.1 Management Objectives:
The park needs to be developed to the desired extend for the green space
development. Green space development is very needed in all ULB for the betterment
of society and also for the climate. The park in an area basically attracts people so
that they can enjoy some free type in a greenery place and also it attracts children.
With the above view in mind this project is prepared for the development of this park
in DINDORI with the following objectives.
Objectives:-
 To develop green space.
 To beautify the ways and surroundings of the park with horticulture.
 To establish a mechanism and system for regular cleaning and maintenance
of the park.
 To provide night light visibility at park
 To provide sit out space.
 To improve the environment to sustain the importance of the green space

Dindori is a district of Dindori state of central India. The town of Dindori is the district

headquarters. It was created on 25th May 1998 with total 927 villages. The district is a

part of DINDORI Division. The district covers an area of 7470 sq.km and is located on

the eastern part of Dindori, bordering the state of Chhattisgarh. It is surrounded by

Shahdol in the east, Mandla in the west, Umaria in the north, and Bilaspur district of

the state of Chhattisgarh in the south.

According to the 2011 census Dindori District has a population of 704,218, roughly

was known as to be Ramgarh till 1951, which then was a tehsil of Mandla. Later on,

the name of Ramgarh was renamed as Dindori.

Till 1835, Mandla was a tehsil of Seoni. In 1851, it was promoted to the status of district.

There were 18 talukas when Britishers got the land of Ramgarh. Out of 2089 villages,

1039 villages had become part of the Sohagpur and 1050 villages remained in

Ramgarh. With the help of Rewa king, Britishers got killed the brave queen of Ramgarh

and suppressed the 1857 mutiny in Mandla. The Sohagpur area of Ramgarh was

handed over to the king of Rewa. The remaining area annexed to Dindori tehsil which

became a new district on 22nd May 1998.

8.2 Design strategy

In light of the town's historical, religious, and social significance, Park is being
suggested as a city-level park to serve the residential and floating populations who
used to visit the temple and sit and enjoy themselves with their families.
It has a serene ambiance thanks to the presence of water and native plantation,
making it a spot where inhabitants may practise morning exercises, yoga, and
meditation in the shade of trees.
Flowery trees such as Gulmohar, Amaltas, Champa, and others are planned to be
planted in the area to make it more colourful.

ABR Architecture& Associates Pvt. Ltd Page 21
