1-2 Roller Clutch to Final Drive Torrington® Bearing Replaced
The flat needle bearing which was used to separate the final ring gear from the 1-2 roller clutch support has
been changed to a solid thrust washer. This design change was incorporated because the 1-2 roller support is
held stationary by the forward band in all ranges except reverse, park and neutral. Therefore, a bearing in this
position served no valve as the transmission is operated for only short periods of time in reverse and is under no
load in park and neutral. The former bearing has been replaced as of start of production in 1994 on all models
with a solid steel thrust washer. Do not be alarmed if you see this washer in earlier model units which have been
repaired or replaced by a rebuilt unit.
