PERFORMANCE TASK

MATHEMATICS 8 - QUARTER 3

“BRIDGE OF CONGRUENCIA”

G-GOAL: You are tasked to design and create a model of a suspension bridge for which will
be the basis of the infrastructure projects of the City Council.
R-ROLE: Your role is one of the City Engineers/Architects from DPWH who are
commissioned by the Special Project Committee to present a blueprint and model of a
suspension bridge to the City Council.
A-AUDIENCE: You need to convince your client, the City Council that the design of the bridge
is stable and strong.
S-SITUATION: One of the projects of the City Council for economic development is to connect
a nearby island to the city with a suspension bridge for easy accessibility of the people.
Those from the island can easily deliver their products and those from the city can enjoy the
beautiful scenery and beaches of the island.
P-PRODUCT, PERFORMANCE & PURPOSE: You will create a simple blueprint and a
strong and stable model of a suspension bridge made up of recyclable materials (for
example, popsicle sticks) in order for the City Council to approve the project and help the
islanders and help boost the economy by easy transportation and promote tourism.
S-STANDARDS or CRITERIA FOR SUCCESS: Your output will be evaluated according to
the following standards:

Other specific instructions:

1. Design and create a model of a bridge with congruent triangles.
2. Submit 2 outputs: (a) Design plan or blueprint of the bridge and (b) actual miniature
bridge model made of recyclable materials.
3. Label the parts of congruent triangles such as the angles and sides and indicate the
measurements using rulers and protractors.
4. Work in groups of 4 to 8 members.
5. You can choose any of the types of bridges. (Beam, Arch, Cable, Suspension Bridge or
Truss Bridge)
6. Draw the blueprint in a clean sheet of bond paper (Long Size: 8.5” x 13”).
7. Deadline: Before the 3rd Quarter Periodic Exam.
