Chapter III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter consists of the following: research design, tools, and

materials, preparation of tools and materials, procedure for making wafer

boards, testing and evaluation of wafer board, and procedural design.

Research Design

The quantitative design used in this study was experimental.

Tools and Materials

The tools that the researcher used in this study are a weighing scale,

scissors, containers, molding frames, a strainer, a spoon, and a beaker.

The materials that the researcher used in this study are bamboo

leaves, rice husks, plastic sachet, detergent, gloves, wood glue, and tap

water.

Gathering of Tools and Materials

The tools and materials that were gathered at the house of the researcher

in Poblacion Angkin Sapian, Capiz are a weighing scale, scissors, containers, a

ladle, gloves, and a strainer and the bamboo leaves were collected in the

backyard of the researcher. The rice husks were collected in Barangay Dinginan,

Roxas City and the plastic sachets were gathered in different households. The tools

and materials that the researcher bought in the market were wood glue and

molding frames.
15

Preparation of Tools and Materials

The collected bamboo leaves were cut into smaller pieces using

scissors and placed into a clean container. The collected plastic sachets

of different products were cleaned using tap water and detergent, air

dried, cut into smaller pieces using scissors, and placed into a clean

container.

Procedures for Making Wafer Board

The molding frame has been covered with plastic to avoid the

mixture sticking. In a container, the bamboo leaves, rice husks, plastic

sachets, and wood glue are mixed depending on their proportion in each

treatment. Then placed and flattened into the molding frame, and was

sundried for 2 hours. After 2 hours, the treatment was flipped to sundried the
16

other side for 2 hours. The mixture was removed from the molding frame

and sundried on both sides for another 15 hours.

Testing and Evaluation of Wafer Board (Gathering of Data)

The appearance, strength, and texture were evaluated by thirty (30)

Grade – 11 students of Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion Senior High

School Department, using the 5-point Likert scale evaluation sheet

prepared by the researcher.

17

The statistical tools used for analyzing the data gathered from the

responses of Grade – 11 students are Frequency, Mean, and Analysis of

Variance (ANOVA) were utilized using the Statistical Package for Social

Sciences (SPSS) Software.
