WORD PROCESSING

Word Processing is the modern, computerized way of preparing letters, reports or manuscripts. It
offers the most effective and efficient means of presenting, handling, preserving office and
personal written transactions with ease and facility.
The term word processing was coined by ULRICH STENILPER of International Business
Machine (IBM) to describe the overall information processing function as distinguished from
data or numerical processing. His premise was that numbers are processed by calculators while
words are processed by means of typewriter. Word processing deals with obviously words, the
transformation of ideas or useful information into a communication format acceptable to the
users. The whole process is carried through the combined efforts of people, hardware and
specialized procedures.

Composing means that you can type directly into the word processor, just like on a
typewriter, one difference between a typewriter and a word processor is that most word
processors have a "wrap-around" feature, which means that text automatically is placed
on the next line if it cannot all fit on the previous line. therefore, with a word processor,
you do not have to hit the return key at the end of each line unless you want to force a
line break (such as at the end of a paragraph).
