ABSTRACT

This installation is a simple working but also it is important to install electricity as efficiently as
possible. The designing of the power distribution system should also be convenient so as to
minimize power losses. This project analyses the electrical design estimations and installation of
a vocational training institute Adminstration block using the lumen method for the lighting and
power calculations. The purpose of the project is to present a suitable approach to electrical
services design to the installation stage based on the IEE regulations. The calculation made is to
help the designer to make decisions such as type of lumanaries, size of cables and normal rating
of protective devices required by each circuit
CHAPTER ONE

1.0 BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The installation of a domestic house is just a simple task in terms of labour and the cost of the
installation. This project consists of the lighting circuits and sockets power circuits. The voltage
used is 240v for a single phase supply, and the cables used are 1.5mm and 2.5mm for the
circuits. PVC conduit wiring system will be used for the whole installation. The double pole will
be as the main switch.

1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT

This project tends to solve the challenges related to design where it shows how the fittings for
lighting and docketing are done

1.3 OBJECTIVES

It mostly deals with:

1.1.1. Designing electrical installation

1.1.2. Estimation of the material used for the installation
1.1.3. It also deals with cable sizing and calculation
1.1.4. Report writing of the design.

1.5 BLOCK DIAGRAM OF POWER

Single phase Final sub

Energy meter Main
supply Distribution box circuit
switch
 SINGLE PHASE SUPPLY - has only one neutral wire one power wire with current
flowing through them.
 THREE PHASE SUPPLY- it has three power wires and one neutral wire with current
flowing through them.
 ENERGY METER -this is for keeping a check on energy consumption and also helping
in protecting appliances from controlling fluctuations in power outages
 MAIN SWITCH - it cut the connection of the live wire as well as the neutral wire
simultaneously from the main supply
 DISTRIBUTION BOX - it is the main power supply system in the house where the
main cable of current comes into the distribution box and through breakers it gets to
destributed to the final sub circuit. It prevents kind of danger and saves the house
 FINAL SUB CIRCUIT - is the outgoing circuit connected to one way on a distribution
fuse board and intended to supply energy at one or move points to current using
appliances without the intervention of a further distribution fuse board.
CHAPTER TWO

2.0 LITERATURE REVIEW

The project is intended to ensure all that is required Will solve the challenges related to
design. Cutout, distribution board, sockets ,switches are some of the accessories used in
the installation.

2.1 ILLUMINATION REVIEW

Due to stroboscopic effect of the lamps, due to periodic flactuations kind the light
output of the lamps caused by cyclic variation of the current in AC circuit.

2.2 ACCESSORIES

 SWITCHES - are devices used for opening and closing electrical circuit under normal
load conditions and are usually operated manually. Single pole switch, three way
switch, four-way switch, double pole switch and a two way switch are some of the
types of switches used.
 CIRCUIT BREAKERS - an electrical switch design to protect an electrical circuit. A
single pole breaker and double pole breaker are some of circuit breaker types.
 SOCKETS - is a device to which electrical devices can be connected to receive the
electric current required for their operation. Two pin sockets are some of the
sockets used.
 ELECTRICAL CABLES - cables are grouped of conductors which channel electric flow
and have an insulation 2.5mm² for sockets and 1.5mm² for lighting are some of the
cables used.

LIGHT BULBS - A bulb is the glass part of an electric lamp which gives out light when
electricity passes through it. Incandescent lamps are some of the type of light bulbs
used.
2.3 WIRING SYSTEM

Is an electrical installation of cabling and associated devices such as switches,

distribution boards , sockets and light fitting in a structure. Allowable wire cable types
and sizes are specified according to the circuit operating voltage and electric current
capacity with further restrictions on the environmental conditions such as ambient
temperature range, moisture levels and exposure to sunlight and chemicals.

2.4 PROTECTION

Protection measures against hazards faults and iniss operation in electrical installations
in the mantionette house covers many aspects such as protection of properties against
damage and destruction, protection against production losses etc

2.5 EARTHING

The type of earthing which will be used will be pipe earthing because it is better than
any other type of earthing. It can earth more leakage current and a possibility of braking
in earth wire is minimum in this method, the galvanized steel and perforated pipe of
approved length and diamater in place upright in a permanent wet soil.

By determination of number of luminaires for each room the illuminance for each room,
the area to be illuminated the maintenance factor is 0.8 Coefficient of utilization which
is 0.7 and efficiency of the bulbs 105 1m/watts 85 wattage LED.

3.3 RECOMMENDATION

This project was carried out during the course of study and it should be renewed to meet up
with the current trends of study. The choice of the project topic should be based on student
specialization to enhance the interest and effectiveness in complication of the project work.

3.4 CONCULISION

The planning and estimation of electrical installation of a flat roofed domestic house was done .
It worked according to the specification and quite satisfactory. The design is quite
cheap ,reliable and easy to understand.
