BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Family planning (FP) refers to employing modern, risk-free methods to have the desired
number of children at the desired time. For the health of the woman, her child, and the family as a
whole, it is better to have children 3 to 5 years apart. Methods of family planning are used to
encourage safer sexual behavior, lower the number of unplanned pregnancies and unsafe
abortions, and manage population growth. A crucial reproductive age group includes young people
between the ages of 15 and 24. An unmet need for family planning results in unintended
pregnancies and illegal abortions. (Navin Bhatt.Plos one.2021)
According to the National Demographic Health Survey, there were 5.1 million unmarried
women and 2.6 million married women in the Philippines who intended to utilize family planning in
2017 but were unable to do so. The core of UNFPA's goal is to end this "unmet need" for family
planning. Implementing President Rodrigo Duterte's Executive Order on "Zero Unmet Need for
Modern Family Planning" and incorporating family planning into the execution of the newly passed
Universal Health Care Legislation are two things that UNFPA assists government partners.
(Philippines.unfpa.org.2021)
Major health and societal effects come from this, which frequently tops the list of causes of
mother and infant mortality in developing nations. Every year, 67 million unwanted pregnancies,
36 million induced abortions, and 76,000 maternal deaths are thought to occur because an
estimated 214 million women of reproductive age lack access to contraception. Family planning
(FP) is a crucial intervention to prevent these negative health consequences. These types of
programs can stop 90% of abortions, 32% of maternal fatalities, 20% of pregnancy-related
morbidity, and 44% of maternal mortality in low-income countries (Navin.Bhatt. Plos one.2021)
Executive Order No. 12, s. 2017: Attaining and Sustaining “Zero Unmet Need for Modern
Family Planning” Through the Strict Implementation of the Responsible Parenthood and
Reproductive Health Act, Providing Funds Therefor, and for other Purposes. This republic act
helps to avoid poverty. They can decide when they want to have a baby, and it also helps them
avoid getting pregnant again unexpectedly. This becomes a protection against population growth.

Based to researchers, people in Barangay Pooc Balayan Batangas have different

perceptions about family planning because there are some people who cannot follow or have
family planning every three months. So, because of that situation, people can't avoid poverty
because of overpopulation. The main reason is a lack of time because, researchers observed that
every family has many priorities in life.
The purpose of this study was to better understand how much knowledge people had about
family planning. Based on observation of researchers, people can use family planning to
determine the number of children they want to have. Couples may plan their families for a variety
of reasons, including deciding when to have children and how long they want to raise them.
Because of this research, it will help to prevent population growth, and people will avoid poverty
because they will be aware of the importance of family planning in a community.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
For this section, selected studies related to the topic were chosen, and after each literature,
a synthesis of the statements was formulated.
According to UERM Health Sciences Journal JANUARY - JUNE (2013) Fathers know
different methods - condoms (96.6%), suppositories (85.2%), tubal ligation (64.7%), injectables
(60.2%), IUDs (54.6%), and vasectomy (54.6%). Fourteen respondents said know about other
types of artificial family planning methods. However, when they asked for clarification, they were
wrong determining birth according to the calendar (42.86%), abstinence (28.57%), weaned
(21.43%), and no sleep for roommate (1.14%), which is a type of artificial family planning methods.
Their source of information is multimedia: television (64.8%), radio (44.2%), and written
newspaper (42.1%).83 people answered out of 85 people know male condoms indicate that they
can get it private establishments such as pharmacies (82.4%) and Convenience stores (50.6%)
and government facilities such as health centers (43.5%) and hospitals (11.8%). Table 2 shows
that respondents obtained information regarding family-specific methods and friends, the media
and healthcare workers. When asked if there will be a day when a woman can more likely to get
pregnant during their period72.73% of respondents answered yes. Out of 75 respondents know
about birth control pills, 63 (84%) said have sex with a woman as long as she on the pill, while 11
said the opposite. Most of the respondents (66.7%) said that it should be taken daily and 16D44
said that it should be taken 1 day before sex. Out of 48 people who know about a vasectomy, 16
know when at least one person has had a vasectomy. Table 3 shows the respondents' attitude
towards different aspects of family planning. Table 4 shows respondents tend to favor discussion
of issues ask for a decision. Less than a third (28 out of 88) respondents discussed their family
planning with a professional.
According to Health Sciences Journal (2013). This study shows that respondents are aware
of these existing accessible methods of artificial family planning in this country, consistent with the
data, 97% of men knew one or more artificial family laws Plan. Male condoms were the most
popular method used. Awareness of the pill is consistent a Filipino man Adequate awareness of
contraception and Attributes of a particular method. Like pills and fallopian tubes, mostly
administered by women Ligation. Research shows half that the respondent is familiar with his one
of the least used family planning methods in the country, vasectomy. The results indicate a high
level of awareness of women's fertile window in general, but this knowledge is limited and not

comprehensive or detailed. These results are similar to previous studies showing that men have
good awareness of their fertile window but poor awareness of when it occurs.
The study of BMC Research (2018) found that 42.3% of women had the correct
information, 58.8% had the correct attitude, and 50.4% had actually used family planning (FP).
The following factors were linked to the use of FP: place of residence, marital status, level of
education, age, profession, knowledge, and attitude, number of children, and participants' monthly
average household income. In this study, compared to other studies, there was a low level of
knowledge about and attitudes toward family planning, as well as a low degree of family planning
use. To raise awareness and improve family planning uptake, every health worker should educate
the population on family planning holistically. Also, more research is required to fully investigate
the various factors influencing the non-use of family planning methods
According to the study of Journal family of medicine.et.Al(2022) 67% of the participants
were using one or another contraceptive. The use of contraceptives was higher among people
who had more education. Males were more knowledgeable about contraception. The most popular
means of contraception was the condom. Among the participants, three-fourths supported the two-
child norm. Less than 50% of both genders preferred a male child. Oral contraceptive pills were
now used by 7.1% and 71.8% of women, respectively. Lack of knowledge, desire for children, and
fear of negative effects were listed as excuses for not using family planning techniques.
Ayele semachew kasa, mulu Tarekegn et.Al(2018) showed that 4.3%of women had the
correct information 58?8% had the correct attitude and 50.4% had actually used Family planning
(FP) The following factors were linked to the use of FP place of residence, marital status level of
education, age, profession Knowledge and attitude, Number of children and participants monthly
average household income. In this study compared to other studies there was a low level of
knowledge about and attitudes toward family planning, as well as low degree of family planning
use. Every health professional should educate the public on Family planning holistically to raise
awareness and hoost the update of Family Planning.
One in four pregnancies in the Philippines are unwanted and 610,000 one unsafe abortions
are carried out year. The Philippines has a high rate of missed opportunities to offer family
planning counselling. This study of Belliza (2019) examined the relationship between missed
opportunities, counselling quality, and its effects on the use of effective contraception in the
country. Wider legal, policy, social, cultural, and structural barriers must be overcome in order to
provide effective contraceptive methods. Systems based approaches must also be used to
increase the availability and overall organization of counselling at all primary health care contracts.

High mortality rates and a lack of family planning create a vicious cycle that increases
adolescent pregnancy and fertility rates lack of family planning has both a cause and an effect on
high child mortality. Lowering child mortality and utilizing family planning can end this bad habit.
Mothers will only have the number of babies they want when they acknowledge that all of their
children have a good chance of surviving. Low infant and maternal mortality rates will result from
promoting and using family planning. Lack of access to family planning can cause population
growth rates, which raises the risk that many households will experience poverty high rates of
population expansion prevent the development of community. Making them particularly prone to
suffering and high poor health. (gh.mj com.2016)
Lack of access to family planning constrains women’s empowerment and contributes to
high fertility rates, which, in turn, lead to higher risks for many households. High fertility rates also
contribute to high rates of population growth that limit countries’ development. Without family
planning, women are protected from any health risks that may occur before, during, or after
childbirth. These include high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, infections, miscarriage, and
stillbirth. Every family who is experiencing hed at all times because they do not have family
planning can cause a lot of priority for them because they don't have time to take a family planning
per month and also because they don't know what could happen if their family is increasing the
population. It may cause their children to struggle without their parents' caretaker because they
are unaware of or too busy to notice other things because they prioritize the first thing that needs
to be prioritized. (Women and Foreign Policy.2017)
Fayehun (2017) asserts that the population will become more reliant due to the age
structure of exponential population expansion, with few productive and more dependent
individuals. Moreover, health disparities will worsen. Existing constrained infrastructure will be
stressed, and growing urbanization will reduce service availability, creating new social and
economic problems. It causes over population in one nation if they not having family planning.
Family planning helps many nations to maintain the balance population of their country. And with
that it will increase service availability and reduce economic problems. Poverty is one of the
examples of negative effects of not having family planning, because of not having family planning
the country will suffer too. For example, one family consist of five to nine members or more, the
parents will have a hard time to send their children to attend school and to give them proper meal
in a day because of financially problem. Over population is connected to poverty, the more poverty
it can lead it to have economic problems.

Contemporary Family planning techniques are an economical means of controlling the

number of children born spacing out their birthday and preventing dangerous abortions in spite of
Improvements in the technology and accessible of contraceptives 214 million women still lacked
access to contemporary Family Planning in 2017. With Three objectives the study of Legh A.
Schrumpf .et.Al (2020) set out to comprehend how modern Family Planning is used in rural setting
in Ghana. First, we wanted to gauge how frequently modern family planning was used and how
frequently there was unment need for it.
Many women find it challenging to access modern contraceptive services due to a lack of
information about fertility awareness and family planning methods religious and cultural barriers
such as normal norms that prevent contraceptives use fear of side effects, myth and conceptions
about modern contraceptives and structural barriers such as lack of some gender provides and
limited family planning services. Health service providers should continue counselling clients on
the management of potential side-effects and ensure accurate information about modem
contraceptives. (Kathmandu Univ Meds.KUMJ, 2017)

Family planning is crucial for reducing unintended pregnancies and the negative
consequences they have on health, as well as for enhancing economic results. Several studies
have looked into how social and cultural factors affect Pakistani women's use of contraception. In
addition to emphasizing the value of open communication between spouses over the use of
contraception, these studies have stressed the role of the mother-in-law and the husband in family
planning decision-making. Family planning is one of the most challenging and least talked about
topics, especially among men in a conservative and patriarchal society where men have the final
say in most matters, including reproductive health. In male dominated decision-making
environments, women typically shoulder the responsibility for employing family planning measures
creating society. Furthermore, young men believe that even if they were eager to participate, there
is not much room for them to participate in the event family planning programs, both among the
community and with between the couples appear to have an impact as a result at the existence of
powerful social cultural and cultural practices as well. This study demonstrates that both young
men and women are enthusiastic about participating in campaigns and effects to aid local
governments in Nepal’s family planning. (Everling,F.Victoria C.G Raj et al.2018)

The study's findings indicate that married women in Pakistan are less likely to have unmet
family planning needs as they get older and more educated. The risk of unmet family planning
needs declines as women's household wealth, the number of children still alive, and husbands'
educational attainment rise. According to this, women living in rural areas are more likely than
women in urban areas to have unmet family planning needs. Women who are less exposed to the
media, unemployed, and fearful of the side effects of using contraceptives are more likely to have
unmet family planning needs. It turns out that family planning methods that delay pregnancy were
widely known. Some of the younger participants, though, were not entirely aware of the family
planning services that were offered. Some married couples who favored ‘’ birth spacing’’ faced
criticism from their relatives for choosing not to have children. Lack of understanding about family
planning were two of the repeated barriers to using family planning techniques and lack of
accessibility and affordability brought by societal, familial, and religious myths and prejudices
individually, some couple reluctances to use family planning technique had a detrimental effect in
their adoption. (Asif, M.F., Pervaiz, 2019)
Family planning measure postpone pregnancy. However, some young participants were not
fully aware of the available family planning services. Some married couples who preferred ''birth
spacing'' received negative judgement from the family members for not starting a family. The
perceived barriers to the use of family planning included lack of knowledge about family planning
use fear of side effects of modern family planning methods, lack of access affordability due to
familiar and religious beliefs or myths misconception. On an individual level some couple timed
nature also negatively influenced the uptake of family planning measure. Women predominantly
take the responsibility for using family planning measures in male-dominated decision-making
societies. Moreover, young men feel that the current family planning programs have very little
space for men to engage even if they were willing to participate. (Bhatt N.et.Al 2020)
According to Christopher Garimoi Orach.(2015) this study is related to the respondents who
were living with a partner or cohabiting using more family planning services, this finding is
consistent with that of a study conducted in south Africa which revealed what living with a partner
or cohabitation is associated with contraceptive use and a study in Uganda also reported that rural
resident was less likely to use contraceptive compared with urban resident. The main impediment
to use of family planning identified by this study was concern about the side effects of
contraceptives.

In Rwanda, adolescents face severe obstacles to obtaining voluntary family planning and
reproductive health (FP/RH) services, such as stigma and prejudice. Self-care treatments have
been proven to lower social obstacles to FP/RH care, but less is known regarding the efficacy of
teenagers' use of digital self- care, particularly in low-resource environments. This study,
CyberRwanda, a digital self-care intervention offering comprehensive sexuality education and
private online ordering of contraceptives for school-aged youth in Rwanda using a rights-based
approach, provided comprehensive sexuality education and confidential online ordering of
contraceptives. Between November 2019 and February 2020, a mixed-methods pilot study was
carried out to evaluate engagement, acceptability, and feasibility in order to inform a future effect
review. A random sample of 158 students from three secondary schools, ranging in age from 12 to
19, were given surveys to complete. thorough interviews.(Rebecca Hemono.et.Al Sexual and
Reproductive Health Matters2022)
Despite the widespread availability of family planning services, failures to utilize
contraception frequently result in unintended pregnancies. These women frequently adopt risky
techniques to abort their pregnancies, which is a factor in the fourth most common cause of
maternal death globally. Demographic factors that may have an impact on the decision to stop
having children would be shown. The advantages and disadvantages of various forms of induced
abortions would be given and addressed. There will be demonstrations of programs that
incorporate counseling for women after unsuccessful family planning for future all-encompassing
reproductive health care. Unintended pregnancies may be more common due to the discrepancy
between women's reproductive intention to avoid pregnancy and the prevalence of contraceptive
use. While advising women, socioeconomic factors, age, race/ethnicity, and marital status should
be taken into account. These women frequently use risky method to terminated their pregnancy
which contributes to the fourth leading cause if material death nationwide. The benefits and
drawbacks of various types of abortions would be discussed.( Ferguson L,et al.Interventions for
Failed Family Planning.2017)
Poor family planning has a number of negative out comes, including material, morality,
unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortion. In addition, modern family are unable to adequately
support the needs of their expanding new baby, which is also a result of generally poor planning
and low contraceptive use. Hench, the national family planning program seeks guarantee that
many Filipinos have access to correct knowledge and contemporary family planning (FP) methods
that are medically safe, legal, abortifacient, efficient and culturally acceptable. This program's
specific goals are to raise the modern contraceptive prevalence rate (m CPR) from 25% in 2017 to
30%. (Department of Health.2018)

SYNTHESIS

The present study is related to the study of BMC research notes (2018), SSJournal of
Family Medicine,UERM Health Sciences Journal (2013),Ayele Semachew kasa.et.Al(2018) as
their studies tackle about low education about Family Planning. Even though with low education
they know about other types of artificial family planning based on their own experience in life.
Nowadays people who are using contraceptives are higher among people who had more
education. Residents need to be aware for what it will be possible happen without contraceptives.
Based on their studies Contraceptives is one of the ways to avoid overpopulation. But also, more
research is required to fully investigate the various factors influencing the non-use of family
planning methods.
The current study is related to the study of Bellizi et al. (2019). Lack of access to family
planning is one reason why people are suffering in poverty because they can’t afford to have it
because of the structural barriers in their lives. This study is similar to the studies of Woman et al.
(2017) and GH MJ Com. (2016), which both showed a lack of access to family planning and
missed opportunities to use a different contraceptive. Because they did not use family planning,
population growth rates increased, many households would experience poverty. Making them
particularly prone to suffering and poor health. The current study was also comparable to the study
of Fayehun (2017), Leah A. Schrumpf, et.Al l (2020), which found that poverty is one of the
examples of the negative effects of not having family planning and that if the country had family
planning, it would suffer too. Overpopulation is connected to poverty and can lead to economic
problems.
The present study is related to study of katmandu univ
Medj(2017),Everling.et.Al(2018),Asif.et.Al(2019),Bhatt N.et.Al(2020),Christopher Garimoi
Orach.et.Al (2015) as their studies are all about the importance of using contraceptives on
preventing unwanted pregnancy and controlling family members The main objective of these
studies are to give information about the proper usage of contraceptives and promote safe sex
and to avoid unwanted pregnancy.

The similarities found between the review of related literature and those of the study are
highly important as way to support and back up the study of Ferguson L, et al (2022),Rebecca
Hémono et al,(2022). Teenage pregnancy reduces girls’ future potential and job possibilities by
contributing significantly to school dropout. It’s similar to our study as it focuses on how family
planning affects the future of the girl to evaluate the program’s long-term effects and determine
whether this digital self-care intervention can boost use of contraceptive methods and decrease
adolescent pregnancy among school-aged kids. Likewise, the study of Department of
health(2018),which states that young people’s capacity to avoid unwantended
pregnancies, sexually transmitted illnesses is constrained by a lack of access family planning and
reproductive health information and services. It is similar to our study as it determines the health
conditions and the state of being unaware of youth when it comes to family planning.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the research method to be used by the researchers in conducting the
study. It includes the design of the study, respondents, instruments, and procedures to be
employed that would investigate the perception of the residents from Barangay Pooc Balayan
Batangas about family planning.
RESEARCH DESIGN
This study entitled” Evaluating the perception of the residents from barangay Pooc Balayan
Batangas about family planning” This study uses a Descriptive Methodology and a Quantitative
Research Design. The systematic empirical analysis of observable phenomena using statistical,
mathematical, or computational methods is known as Quantitative Research. The goal of
Quantitative research is to create and use mathematical theories, models, and hypothesis that
relate to phenomena. The Descriptive Research Approach was chosen because it was more than
just obtaining data; it is a procedure for gathering information quickly. This was utilized to complete
the necessary data for the aforementioned investigation. This approach is used to identify existing
issues and suggest improvements.
RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY
Respondents for the researchers from the residents of barangay Pooc were picked as the
researcher's respondents because they were the most generally available and the researcher's
initial option. Non-Probability sample was the sample design employed by the researchers since
not every person of the population had an equal chance of responding to the researcher's study.
The sample approach was then Purposive sample.
DATA GATHERING INSTRUMENT
The researchers will utilize survey questionnaire to gather data on evaluating the perception of the
residents from Barangay Pooc Balayan Batangas about family planning. The researchers will use
the questionnaires they self-designed when building it. The experts will validate the questionnaires
to ensure their validity and dependability.
DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE
Survey questionnaires were prepared by the researchers for the gathering of data. The
researchers were given time to gather necessary data needed of the study. Through the purposive
sampling, the researchers selected all the parents in barangay Pooc Balayan Batangas to
evaluating the perception of the residents about of Family Planning.
