Learning Objectives

At the end of the lesson, you should be able to:

❑Give real life situations to illustrate fractions, decimal, and
percent
❑Solve problems involving fractions, decimals, and percent
related to business
Essential Question

What business related situations /

problems can fractions, decimals
and percent be applied.
Definition of terms

Fraction simply tells us how many parts of a whole we have. It is

composed of numerator and denominator.

Numerator is the upper portion of the fraction.

Denominator is the lower portion of the fraction.

Vinculum a horizontal line drawn over a group of terms in a

mathematical expression to indicate that they are to be operated on
as a single entity by the preceding or following operator.
Definition of terms

Terminating Decimal are those numbers which come to an end after

few repetitions after decimal point.

Repeating Decimal or recurring decimal is decimal representation of

a number whose digits are periodic and infinitely repeated portion is
not zero.
Changing Fractions to Decimals.
When a fraction is converted to a decimal, it will be in one of two forms: a
terminating decimal or a repeating decimal.
Problem Involving Fraction
The 3J’s sisters Jen,
Jack, and Jill earned a
profit of Php 90,000 from
Jen – 2/5 x 90,000 = 180,000/5 =Php 36,000
their online make up
business. If Jen has a
Jack – ½ x 90,000 = 90,000/2 = Php 45,000
share of 2/5, Jack has ½,
and Jill has 1/10, how
Jill – 1/10 x 90,000 = 90,000/ 10 = Php 9,000
much is the share of each
in the net profit of their
business.
Problem Involving Fraction

Aiza works at MAVC

Investments and received = 90,000 x 5/12
a check of Php 90,000. = 450,000 / 12 = P37,500 money deposited
She deposited 5/12 of the
check in her savings Check she received 90,000
account. How much Money she deposited 37,500
money does Aiza have Money left 52, 500
left after the deposit?
Problem Involving Decimals

Yards of cloth – 142

Dimple is selling 142
Sale price – 25.75
yards of cloth which she
puts on sale for Php
= 142 x 25.75
25.75 per yard. What is
= Php 3, 656.50
the total profit she will get
Dimple’s total profit in selling 142 yards of
from selling her cloth?
cloth.
Problem Involving Decimals

In a cargo company, a
1 -10 kgs worth – 1, 250
small box with 1 – 10
For additional – 125.50
kilograms is worth Php
1,250 for an air cargo. For
10 kgs + 5 kgs = 15 kgs
an additional, it is 125.50
per kilogram. How much
=1,250.00 + 125.50 (5)
will be the cost if you
=1,250.00 + 627.50
have a small box
= Php 1, 877.50
weighing 15 kilograms?
Problem Involving Percent
Salary – 24,600
Out of a salary of Php Savings – 1/3
24,600, I kept 1/3 as Food – 40%
savings. Out of the House Rent – 20%
remaining money, I spend
40% on food and 20% on = 24,600 x 1/3 = Php 8,200 savings
house rent. How much do Salary 24,600
I spend on food and Less: Savings 8,200
house rent? Salary Left 16,400

=16,400 x 40% = Php 6,560 Food

=16,400 x 20% = Php 3,280 House Rent
Problem Involving Percent

Current Gross Sales – Php 315,000

ABC Shoes company has Last Month Gross Sales – Php 280,000
a current gross sales of
Php 315, 000. Last = 315,000 – 280,000 / 280,000
month, the company’s
sales were 280,000. How =35,000/ 280,000
much is the increase in =0.125 to convert it in percentage just multiply
the gross sales? it to 100 and add percentage sign

= 12.5% rate of increase
