Activities  Prayer
 Checking of Attendance
 Review
How will you protect yourself from COVID-19?
What can you do to prevent the spread of COVID-19?

 Drill
Directions: Encircle the animals that do not belong to each group.
a. dog mosquito pig
b. butterfly bee chicken
c. earthworm cat leech
d. grasshopper horse cow
e. frog salamander housefly
B. Motivation Look at the pictures.
Let the pupils study and analyze the pictures.
Set A
Set B

What animals are shown here?

What characteristics are common to the animals in set A? in set B? Can you
group them according to their characteristics?

The animals in Set A have differences but what is one thing common to them?
Yes, it is the presence of backbone. Clearly, these animals have a backbone
and belong to the VERTEBRATES group.

Can you identify the animals in the pictures? What characteristic is common to
them? How do animals in Set B differ from Set A animals? While animals in Set
A have a backbone, animals in this group have no backbone and belong to
group INVERTEBRATES.
C. Activity Group Activity (Collaborative learning)

1. The teacher will divide the class into three groups.

2. Recall standards and safety measures when doing the activity.
3. Distribute activity cards.

2. Analysis and discussion of pupils’ answers.
3. Ask questions to develop higher-order thinking skills.
4. The teacher will check and rate the groups’ outputs

How can you classify animals belong to vertebrate and invertebrate?

Which of the two groups, you love more? Possible answer: Vertebrate
Do you think they are important in our community or in our environment? Yes.
Why? Possible Answer: Both groups are important because they have
special role in the community in balancing the ecosystem they are living.
(VALUES INTEGRATION)
E. Abstraction Try to reach and feel the bones at your back. What do you notice? Up and
down the middle of your back are bones that make up your vertebral column.
These bones called vertebrae are joined together big cartilage to form a flexible
but supportive column called the backbone or vertebral column.

Animals can be classified according to the presence or absence of

backbones. Animals with backbones are called VERTEBRATES.
Classification of Vertebrates

Fishes, Amphibians, Reptiles, Birds, and Mammals all have backbones.

Animals without backbones are called INVERTEBRATES. Worms, clams,
jellyfish, flies, and spiders are some examples of invertebrates found in our
community.
