Reporting Period: Sept. 6th – Dec. 15th, 2022

Student’s Name: Kentaro Hara

Date of Birth:
Program / Class: Kindergarten / K6
Program Teachers: Raymond Guinto Nicole Stark Crystal Arevalo Grace Diana

The first period of the School Year focused on the Kindergarteners’ abilities to learn more about
themselves, the school, and their environment. They have learned about their physical growing
selves, building, and nurturing relationships with friends and teachers, and changes in their
surroundings. The objectives for this period are all about knowing oneself and the physical body
and adapting to changes in school and their surroundings.

Progress Summary:
1. Language Development
We focused on building the children’s vocabulary, developing listening skills, and the ability to
follow multiple instructions. We have also piqued their interest in reading and building skills
necessary for reading and writing. As a whole, we worked on developing the child’s interest in
language-based activities.

Kentaro is a soft spoken student who likes to listen to stories, especially from Eric Carle books. He listens
attentively and sometimes he would come up with his own insights about the story. He is learning to read
confidently most C-V-C words and 1-3 letter sight words such as ‘the’, ‘I’,’ am’, ‘my’, ‘you’, ‘is’, ‘are’, ‘go’
that he often finds in a book. Kentaro knows all the letters of his name as well.

2. Motor Development
a. Gross Motor
PE and outdoor activities were focused on developing and improving the children’s coordination
and ability to control their body movement. They have developed their control of speed and
direction while moving and built the awareness of their bodies, movement, and the space around
them.

Kentaro has improved his gross motor skills through games, class activities and school events. His
performance during the Annual Winter Carnival showed that he can dance to a synchronized
choreography. He was able to hand two props while dancing. Kentaro enjoyed the finale choir
presentation as he likes the song “If We Hold on Together”, he is often heard singing this song in class.

b.Fine Motor
The children built the coordination and strength of small muscles in the hands and fingers. The
Arts and Crafts activities focused on improving their grip on tools and developing control while
drawing/writing and other pre-writing activities. Practical Life activities allow them the
independence to do smaller but significant matters in daily life such as dressing, washing hands,
etc.
Kentaro can spell and write his name on the line. Some letters such as ‘p’, ‘q’ & ‘b’, ’p’ are interchanged
often, yet he is open to correction and guidance from teachers. Currently, he has better pencil grip and
this improved his writing strokes. Kentaro likes to explore the sensory and discovery corner as well.

3. Social/Emotional Development
Our focus this period is to encourage the children to build self-confidence and independence.
They are also building and nurturing relationships and are learning to develop self-resolution
skills. These skills are built through daily interaction with their classmates and teachers.

Kentaro is a gentle boy who appreciates solitude and small social group settings. He enjoys the company
of 1 or 2 friends most of his time in the classroom. Focusing on their common interests such as dinosaurs,
pokemon and sometimes trains. Kentaro is learning positive ways to handle uncertain situations that
involve overwhelming emotions.

4. Cognitive Development
Cognitive Development involves the progressive building of learning skills such as attention,
memory and thinking. These crucial skills enable the children to process sensory information, and
eventually learn to analyze, remember, make comparisons, and understand cause and effect.
Thinking and learning skills are improved with various activities in class.

Kentaro likes counting and numbers in general. He is seen at times lining up dinosaur toys and counting
them back and forth. He is learning to perform 1 - 2 digits addition using manipulatives and hands on toys.
Kentaro enjoys circle time especially when students are to predict the weather of the day as this will tell
him that the class can go or not to the park.
