Characteristics of Trend and Fad

The following are the characteristics of trend and fad: Appeal, result, scope, support, sustainability, and value.

Trend and fad are b oth easy to get, makes people feel better, and does
Appeal not deviate much from the general norm or status quo.

Trend endures with or without publicity, continues for a long period of

Result time with or without the aid of advertisements . On the other hand, fad is
hyped or advertised (usually by media), dependent on marketing, and
people tend to forget about it.

Both trend and fad cater to and is accepted by a wide audience or a

Scope large group of consumers.

16
Trend is supported by a number of fads, existing trends, and efforts are
Support conducted to bolster the longevity of the lifeline of a desired trend.
However, support is almost inexistent and unclear, and does not have
formidable support system on fad.

Sustainability while fad is relatively brief, like few weeks or months. It fades

popularity and long term popularity, socially constructed, recurrent
phenomenon sustained over time and has a high market demand?

17
What are the elements that
drive all trends?

There are three fundamental

elements that drive all trends:
Basic needs, drivers of change,
and innovation (Dumitrescu,
2018).

Study and analyze the graphic organizer above,

what do you think are the drivers of trend? How
do you explain the sweet spot?
18
BASIC NEEDS

Trends exist for humans. Trends are deeply rooted from

the basic needs, wants, and desires of people.

DRIVERS OF CHANGE
There are no trends without change. Business
professionals identify changes to better provide service
to people. They analyze what needs to be changed based
on consumer preference and needs.

INNOVATIONS
Innovations react to changes, and improve products and
services to address consumer needs.
19
THE SWEET SPOT

The secret ingredient that drive all trends is not in one

of the elements alone. Rather, it comes from the tension
that occurs when these elements intersect. The tension
which is "the sweet spot" occurs by understanding
customer expectation, what they need today and, in the
future, what could change, and how their expectations
can be best addressed. Understanding this will enable
you to hit the tension or the sweet spot and will enable
you to spot or create a trend and provide customers'
needs and desires.

How do businesses use the fundamental elements in spotting a trend?

Spots

economic shocks, environmental occurrence, specific
technological changes that caused the emergence of this trend?
Are there improvements, creative designs, or better functions of
this trend?

The primary use is to authenticate a person in a reliable
and fast way through unique biological characteristics
(Thales, 2020).
