DEBURRING:

This is a surface finishing process. Therefore, it does not change the dimensions of the part functionally.
It is simply the removal of burrs. Uneven bits on the surface and edges of the materials are referred to
as burrs. It is formally defined as the process by which edges or ridges of machined parts and other
objects are neatened or smoothed. All sorts of materials, including ferrous and non-ferrous metal and
sheet metal (especially steel), wood and plastic, need this treatment; it’s a common stage in industrial
manufacturing, as well as in electronics, building construction, automotive, aviation and medical device
production. Generally, deburring machinery is required after processes like molding, forging, stamping,
drilling or machining.

IMPORTANCE AND APPLICATIONS

Deburring machinery is a valuable investment for nearly any manufacturer. This is because industrial
procedures such as welding, molding, cutting, slitting, and casting often render an uneven surface. This
must be modified and smoothened using suitable deburring machinery. The various reasons are:
 so many processes, especially steel machining processes, leave behind sharp edges, bumps,
raised edges, burrs or seams that need to be removed.
 A failure to deburr could lead to operational damage, ineffectiveness and accidents or injury,
 It leaves a product with poor aesthetics and quality.
 Very importantly, the smooth surface finish achieved by deburring prevents areas of stress and
weakness from going unnoticed and allows for accurate mathematical and/or scientific
performance analysis. For example, when a burr is left on the edge of a hole, plugs and thread
gages may not fit properly, resulting in rejected parts.
Equipment that deburring machinery serve includes, but is not limited to: molds, dies, chemical
components, pharmaceutical components and both large and small industrial parts and machinery.

e term “deburring equipment” refers to all of those machines that carry out this process

Deburring is an important skill; it should be given attention because removal of burrs is critical to safety
and quality.

The Problem With Burrs

Burrs can cause issues in downstream machining processes by preventing proper location of the part in
a fixture or result in erroneous measurements when a burr interferes with a metrology device.
