A. FUTSAL. WHAT DOES IT ENTAIL?

A.l. When did it begin? . Look up the meaning of the fol-

lowing concepts rn the Glossary:
ln China, in the year 200 BC, soldiers prepared physically by playing passing ane, penalrsation, dnbb e, --.r
a game with a ball made of horseskin somewhat akin to the game we shot, ass st, getting clear:
know today as football. Centuries later, in about 1410 in the city of
Florence, ltaly, they played calcio: two teams of 27 players confronted
each other moving the ball with their feet to put it in goal.

However, the most recent precedent of futsal is our current game

of football. Originally a British sport, football was first regulated in
Cambridge, England, in 1846, establishing rules that still remain today,
such as those relating to corners.

The victory of the National Team of Uruguay at the World Cup in 1930
sparked great interest in the Uruguayan and Brazilian people in playing
the game of football. These countries adapted the rules to a smaller pitch
- the handball court - creating the modern indoor version known as futsal
(from futbol sala).

A.2. What is the object of the game?

The object of the game is to put the ball into the other team's net.
Every time this happens, a goal is scored. No player other than the ?
goalkeeper can hold or hit the ball with their hands or arms. The team 4\

that scores most goals wins the match.

There are 12 players in each team: 5 play on the

has a circumference of 61 to 64 cm and weighs bet-
ween 410 and 430 g.

The pitch is rectangular and measures 40 metres

by 20 metres, although this may vary by up to 2 metres. The markings
