SEMI- DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 7 MATHEMATICS

I. Objectives:
At the end of the 60-minute session, the student will be able to:

A. Illustrate what is triangles, squares, rectangles, regular pentagons, and

regular hexagons.
B. Perform polygon constructions, such as triangles, squares, rectangles,
regular pentagons, and regular hexagons using straightedge and
drawing compass.
C. Make a 3D objects that shows the shape of a triangle, square, rectangle, regular
pentagons, and regular hexagons.

II. Subject Matter:

a. Learning Competency: The learner constructs triangles, squares,
rectangles, regular pentagons, and regular hexagons.
b. Topic: Construct Triangles, Squares, Rectangles, Regular Pentagons, and Regular
Hexagons.
c. Materials: Laptop, TV, Cellphone(or any gadgets that can access Facebook),
compass, straightedge, ruler, and whiteboard
d. References: Grade 7 Mathematics Learner’s Module (Module 7: Lesson1)
e. Value(s): Participation, Collaboration

III. Learning Procedure

A. Preparatory Activities
1. Classroom Routine
 Prayer: The teacher will choose a student to lead the
prayer.
 Greetings
 Attendance: The class secretary will be requested to
check who’s absent in the class.
2. Motivation
Introduce Activity:
 “Choose Me, Draw Me” In this activity, students will be
group into four groups. Each group will have one
representative to go to the teacher to pick of what
shapes they will be drawn on the whiteboard. After
that, they would be given 5 minutes to draw. Groups
will formulate and gathered their ideas about what is
the contribution of their chosen shapes in our lives.
Then, another one of their group member will present
their ideas in the class.

B. Lesson Proper
1. Activity
“Classify Me”
 The teacher will flash different objects on the
TV screen.
 The teacher will instruct the students to
classify those objects, if it’s either a triangle,
square, rectangle, pentagon, or hexagon.
 Students will be given 3 minutes to complete
their task

2. Analysis
The teacher will ask the following questions:

 Are you familiar with the objects in the given

activity?
 Did this activity help you recall the triangles,
squares, rectangles, regular pentagons, and
regular hexagons? Why or why not?
 Do you find difficult by classifying those
objects?
3. Abstraction
The teacher will discuss the following concepts:

Constructs Triangles, Squares, Rectangles, Regular

Pentagons, and Regular Hexagons

- A triangle is a closed, 2-dimensional shape with 3 sides,

3 angles, and 3 vertices. A triangle is also a polygon.
- Square is a regular quadrilateral, which has all the four
sides of equal length and all four angles are also equal
- A rectangle is a closed 2-D shape, having 4 sides, 4
corners, and 4 right angles (90).
- If all the sides are equal and all the angles are of equal
measure, then it is a regular pentagon.
- A regular hexagon is a closed shape polygon which has
six equal sides and six equal angles.

- Additionally, using a compass and straightedge, we can

construct polygons. We use a straightedge to construct
a line, ray, or segment when two points are given. The
marks indicated in the ruler may not be used for
measurement. We use a compass to construct an arc
(part of a circle) or circle, and a radius length.
4. Application
The Teacher will let the students to construct their own polygons.

Directions: In a one whole intermediate paper, draw or construct a

triangle, square, rectangle, regular pentagons, and
regular hexagons using straightedge and drawing
compass. Students will be given 10 minutes to do this
task.

Generalization:
This lesson is about constructing triangles, squares,
rectangles, regular pentagons, and regular hexagons.
After exploring this lesson, you are now capable of
illustrating and constructing the triangles, squares,
rectangles, regular pentagons, and regular hexagons.
Also in this lesson, you encountered about how to draw a
perfect polygons using a compass and straightedge. More
importantly, you’ve given a chance to apply their learning
in this lesson through the different given activities and
tasks. Your understanding of this lesson and other
previously learned concepts will help you facilitate your
learning in the next lesson: Solves Problems Involving
Sides and Angles of a Polygon.
IV. Evaluation
Instructions:
 Group the students into 3 groups.
 Each group will make a one 3D objects that shows either a triangle, square,
rectangle, regular pentagon, or regular hexagon.
 After that, they will post their output on Facebook and put a catchy caption.
 Groups that will follow all instructions correctly will receive perfect points.

V. Assignment

Directions: Study the next lesson which is all about “Solves Problems
Involving Sides and Angles of a Polygon.” Then, try to answer
the following questions:

1. Find the measure of each interior angle of a regular

polygon with 16 sides.
2. How many degrees are there in each exterior angle of
a regular pentagon?
