MATHE
Explain non-routine word problems and the strategies used to solve these kind
of problems.

Let the pupils solve the problem below by drawing an illustration first.
The street lights are 25 meters apart. If there are 10 street lights, what is the
distance from the first street light to the last street light?

After the given time, ask a volunteer/volunteers to draw the illustration on the
board. Discuss with the pupils the solution on the board.

1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th

Since there are 9 spaces between the lights, you multiply 9 x 25 = 225 m.

So, the distance between the first and last street lights is 225 m.

F. Developing Mastery Let the pupils solve the problem below by drawing an illustration.
In a tray there are 6 rows of cookies with 6 cookies in each row.
Two rows of cookies are butter cookies. How many cookies on the
tray are butter cookies?
G. Finding practical applications of Use graphing paper to solve for the answer.
concepts and skills in daily living Write the words LITER and GRAM on a graphing paper. What is the value of
each word if it is tiled at Php45 per tile?
H. Making Generalizations and abstractions How do you solve non-routine word problems involving multiplication of whole
about the lesson numbers including money using appropriate strategies and tools?
Non-routine problems can be solved without using a standard procedure. They
can be solved by drawing a picture, using a number line, acting out, making a
table and others.
I. Evaluating learning Solve the problem. Show your solution.
1.A box of sardines containing 36 cans is sold with 3 cans free. How many cans of
