Seminar About Mental Health Awareness

On May 30, 2023, our team headed to Nueva Era National High School Extension for a
seminar on Mental Health. Before starting the session, I had the privilege of leading a prayer,
seeking guidance, knowledge, and strength from God for everyone present. It was important to
set a positive and supportive atmosphere for the students.
Christine Madarang then instructed the Grade 10 students to watch a short video clip
about mental health, while our team stood at the back to facilitate the discussion. The video
aimed to raise awareness about mental health and its importance. After the video ended, Ms.
Elgie initiated a discussion, encouraging the students to share their thoughts and reflections on
the content they had just watched.
To further engage the students, Ms. Elgie introduced an activity that required them to
identify and express their emotions. Each student was given a colored paper and asked to write
down the feelings they were experiencing at that moment. Once they had written down their
emotions, they crumpled the paper and threw it onto a blackboard. This activity symbolized the
release of negative emotions and served as a way for the students to ease any burdens they may
have been carrying.
Observing the students during this activity, I could see the relief and catharsis in their
eyes. It was evident that the seminar had provided them with a safe space to acknowledge and
address their emotions. I felt grateful for the opportunity to be a part of these seminars, knowing
that we were able to help alleviate the heavy feelings they may have been experiencing.
