Knowing the process and aim of goal setting does not mean you may
Setting goals is an important skill that can help anyone be more successful in life.
Goals can provide direction and purpose in our lives. Learning to set goals takes
practice, so it’s a great idea for parents and teachers to teach this skill to teens to help
them become more successful and responsible adults. The beginning of a new school
year is a perfect time to encourage your teen to establish some goals. Studies show
that teens who set goals at the beginning of each school year are more likely to
succeed academically and have a more positive attitude about school than those who
do not set goals.
Define the term “goal setting” and identify THREE problems that teenagers could

different school. They frequently chat on WhatsApp and enjoy watching each other’s
stories on Instagram to keep up to date with their daily activities.
Carlisle noticed that many other people were commenting on Joe’s posts, sharing
hearts, and saying things that seemed inappropriate, considering that Joe was in a
relationship. When Carlisle confronted Joe over WhatsApp, Joe got angry very quickly,
saying that Carlisle needed to calm down and stop overreacting or else there is no
point being in a relationship. Carlisle was left in shock wondering how such a close
bond could be damaged by a few texts.
After a while, Carlisle and Joe’s relationship troubles became public knowledge.
Everyone had something to say about the issue and Carlisle often found rude
comments posted all over his social media feeds. He also found that Joe’s messages
were becoming more degrading and hurtful, making him feel small and insignificant.
He wondered if he should end the relationship and take a break from social media.
Social media has given teens the ability to instantly connect with others and share

their lives through photos, videos and status updates. Teens themselves describe
