1.0 PURPOSE
The purpose of this method statement is to describe the procedure for concrete repair works at (Project
name). It shall be done by trained workmanship under the supervision of site Engineers as per the
drawing and manufacturer recommendation.

2.0 OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE


This work procedure narrates the guidelines for carrying out concrete repair works as per the technical
data sheet.

3.0 ACRONYMS & DEFINITION


The following terms used in this document have the meaning defined below:

CONTRACT - The form of agreement together with the documents in order of priority, including the
exhibits, drawings, specifications, documents referred to, and in the order of precedence listed in the
form of agreement.
SCOPE OF WORK - The scope of work to be performed and service to be rendered by the service provider
under the contract in relation to the realization of the project.

The following acronyms are used in these documents which have the meaning defined below:

4.0 CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT

And all the necessary hand tools like shovel, tape, etc. All necessary supporting tools and equipment
required shall be arranged well in advance.

Concrete Repair Procedure


5.0 PERSONNEL
The contractor/subcontractor/site engineer shall employ a competent representative, whose name or
names shall have previously communicate in writing to the contractor to carry out, supervise the works
and also take instructions from an engineer. Anyone representative of the contractor/Client shall be
present at the site during working hours. Contractor/Site Engineer shall at all times employ as much labor
as required which includes specialized and experienced team for proper progress of the work as planned
and shall on demand furnish from time to time such returns as may be required by the engineer of the
number of skilled and unskilled labors and supervisor staff employed upon the work.

6.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
6.1 Project Manager
 Responsible for the entire operation of all works at the site by taking care of quality and safety
requirements.
 He will be responsible for the overall in-charge for the compliance of the work with project
specifications.
 He will be responsible for the management of the resources and controlling the wastages.
 He will be the focal point for the interaction with the Contractor/Client.

6.2 Construction Manager


 Responsible for the entire operation of concrete repair works complying with quality and safety
requirements.
 To ensure that the team of supervisor and foreman are aware of this Method Statement and all
the resources are available to carry out the work as planned.
 Ensure the construction HSE plan, procedures, and instructions are strictly implemented at the
workplace.
 Conduct TBT with workers and supervisors on a safety topic.
 Ensure works are carried out as per MS/JSA
 To ensure housekeeping at all times during the course of the work.
 Report near misses, injuries, and accident/incident cases.
 Coordination with site HSE manager/office.
 Ensure job-specific training for all employees.

6.3 Project Engineer


 Responsible for the supervision of concrete repair works.
 Organizing the engineering deliverables for the project.
 In charge of preparing the materials and subcontractor requirements for the project.
 Ensure the construction HSE plan, procedures, and instructions are strictly implemented at the
workplace.
 Conduct TBT with workers and supervisors on a safety topic.
 Ensure works are carried out as per MS/JSA
 To ensure housekeeping at all times during the course of the work.
 Report near misses, injuries, and accident/incident cases.
 Coordination with site HSE manager/office.
 Ensure job-specific training for all employees.
 No workers must be accepted at the site without a proper gate pass.

6.4 Civil Supervisor


 Responsible for the supervision of concrete repair works.
 To ensure that all technical matters and changes in drawings are discussed with the charge hand.
 To ensure that all equipment required for the works is available and in good condition.
 Ensure toolbox talks before work starts.
 Check all workers are wearing suitable PPE's as per Job Safety Analysis.
 Work must be carried out as per MS/JSA.
 PTW must be following strictly.
 If the job is not safe, he must stop the job and contact to HSE/Construction manager.
 To ensure housekeeping at all times during the course of the work.
 Report near misses, injuries, and accident cases.

6.5 HSE Inspector


 Responsibility includes safety risk assessment for every job or task which has the potential for
harm, ensure all PPE is available with the workmen, all required equipment's & tool shall be
checked, inspected and color-coded before the start of work for suitability and integrity, good
housekeeping shall be maintained in the duration of work and site shall be cleaned after
completion of work.
 To ensure housekeeping at all times during the course of the work.
 HSE manager in coordination with the project manager and construction manager will ensure
that all the implemented safety measures are effective enough to maintain safe working on the
site.
 Necessary safety instructions are to be provided to the crew based on the site's live condition.

6.6 QA/QC Engineer - Inspector


 Responsible for inspections in coordination with the consultant and monitoring the execution to
confirm, it complies with the approved procedure and contractor specification.

7.0 METHODOLOGY
7.1 Identification of defects
 Identification of defects and damages in the concrete structure where repair works to be carried
out following are the few cases - Repair of the concrete surface, honeycombing, edges of steps,
and all types of load-bearing situations.

7.2 Substrate Preparation


 Repair mortar can be applied to sound concrete, masonry, rock, or similar materials.
 Damaged concrete surface and laitance shall be removed by chipping with cold chiseling to
obtain a rough surface.
 The area shall be surrounded by clean edges.
 The surface shall be free from any traces of grease or oil.
 Any corroded steel shall be cleaned with a metal brush or sand to remove all dust particles.

7.3 Repair Mortar Preparation


 Repair mortar shall be prepared by mixing the compound with water. (As per technical data
sheet of approved repair mortar. Generally with 3.75 to 4.5 liters of clean water in 25 kg bags)
until a smooth homogenous paste is obtained.

7.4 Concrete Repair Mortar Application


 Concrete repair mortar can be applied: 1. Manually with a trowel, 2. By using a dry or wet
spraying machine., and 3 By pumping.
 Repair Mortar should be used as per manufacture recommendations.
 Wash the areas with water a few hours before the application. At the time of application, the
area should be free from water but still damp.
 For thickness more than 50mm, it is recommended to apply it in a two-layer. When the first coat
is applied, it must be directly roughened to increase bonding with the second coat.
 Re-mixing with an extra amount of water is forbidden.
 After application, the exposed surface shall be cured by spraying cool water with an approved
curing compound or by covering with wet hessian and polythene sheet for 3 days/
 The finishing level shall match the alignment of the structure.
 Good housekeeping shall be carried out periodically at the end of every day.
Application of Concrete Mortar
8.0 HEALTH, SAFETY, AND ENVIRONMENT
8.1 Hazards :

8.2 General Control Measures :

 Ensure Overnight safety
 Use skilled personnel
 Deploy the right person for the right job with valid licenses wherever required.
 Impart proper job-specific training.

 Start the work only after ensuring that it is safe in all respects
 Stop work when it is not safe

8.3 Recovery Measures :


 In case an undesired event or incident dos happen at the work at the site or residential camp, in
spite of essential HSE protection systems and procedures are in place, the same shall be handled
in such a way as to reduce the severity of human injury or damages and to regain control within
the least possible time. The following will be the action in such contingencies.
 In accidents of major nature such as those resulting in fatalities, severe human injuries, fire, and
explosion, etc., and natural calamities, the work will be stopped immediately and appropriate
emergency response procedure adopted as per procedures already in place.
 The matter will be communicated to the Contractor/Client and other key personnel by the
easiest available means, seeking assistant and advice.
 Further work will be started only on getting clearance from the contractor, client.
 Daily TBT will be conducted of all employees to explain the HSE pat of the incident, the
immediate and underlining causes of the incident, and the corrective/ control measure that are
essential to prevent further occurrences of similar incidents.
 An emergency plan will be available.
 Detailed investigation of the incident will be made, other than natural calamities, and the
learning points will be disseminated to the workforce.
 In less serious cases, first aid or clinical aid shall be extended to injured victims, if any, and the
matter intimated to all concerned including contractor, and client. Adequate first aid boxes shall
be in place and trained first aiders provided at the site.

8.4 Access
 The site engineer shall organize and provide temporary access and walkways for persons,
vehicles, and equipment required for the works to ensure the safe working of the personnel and
remove on completion of the same.

9.0 PERMIT TO WORK


The site engineer shall apply a permit for concrete repair mortar to the client or contractor as per PTW
requirements and procedures. On approval from the contractor, the work shall be carried out. The sub-
contractor through his authorized representative shall organize and take the relevant permits required
for the safe working in the plant area from the permit approval authority with advance notice without
hampering the progress.

10.0 STORAGE AND HANDLING


All materials and tools shall be stored in a clean, dry, and organized manner. All materials will be stacked
and barricaded. Unwanted material will be disposed of in dumping yards.
