METHOD OF STATEMENT FOR
CERAMIC TILES INSTALLATION BY
ADHESIVE/GLUE
1.0 PURPOSE

This method statement provides guidelines for the necessary works in the installation of
ceramic tiles including accessories within the area of the REHABILITITATION OF SHAHATA HOUSE
and in accordance with project specification document and the project schedule. To ensure
efficient and safe installation. It outlines the necessary steps and precautions to be taken during
the installation process and guarantees that the quality of work shall be carried out in full
conformity with the project scope of work, applicable standards and approved procedures to
the satisfaction of the client.

2.0 SCOPE

This Method Statement describes the specific tasks required for the installation of ceramic
tiles. It ensures that all activities are done in a safe and orderly manner. This meets the
requirements of the HSE manual, applicable quality standards and the manufacturer's
installation instructions for MOC Framework (Rehabilitation of Shahata House). It covers the
installation process from start to finish, including all necessary tools, equipment, and safety
precautions for the MOC Framework (Rehabilitation of Shahata House). In accordance with
approved shop drawings and materials.
This method statement covers the contractor’s responsibility, work execution procedure, safety
and quality control requirements as applicable for this particular work.

AS BUILT Mark-ups on drawings by the contractor building a
facility or fabricating equipment that illustrate how the
item or facility was actually built versus the original

5.0 RESPONSIBILITY

5.1. Project Manager - To ensure that the work described hereunder is executed in
accordance with all the contract requirements including this method statement and all safety
aspect of the installation

5.2. Construction Manager – Responsible for the verification of this method statement
and of any subsequent revision. He also responsible for ensuring that all works are performed
timely, properly, accurately and completely and aside from making sure that corrective action is
taken in case the work is not done correctly. Also ensures that all safety issues are promptly
addressed and remedied, and safety requirements and stipulation are met and that all works
are performed in accordance with well-established practices and procedures. The Construction
Manager reports to the Project Manager on the overall status of the site execution works.

5.3. Site Engineer


• Secures Work Permits to execute the job and ensures that a copy of the permit is displayed in
the work area.
• Ensure that all safety requirements to start the activity as listed in the work permit are in
place.
• Coordinates with the QC inspectors to ensure that all relevant inspections are completed and
approved to allow succeeding work to proceed.

• Supervises the execution of the work and ensures that it is being done as per approved project
specifications, drawings, material technical date sheet, and work procedure
• Ensures that all operatives involved in the performance of this work have been briefed with
this method statement and have the correct information as to the works that they are required
to perform
• Takes corrective actions required if any work has not been performed correctly
• Prepares and submits inputs to the daily report
• Reports directly to the Project Engineer

5.4. QA/QC Manager - Responsible for reviewing this procedure and also has the overall
responsibility of ensuring that works in the field are performed in compliance with all applicable
quality standards, stipulations and procedures in addition to ensuring that corrective actions are
taken in cases where are not performed correctly

5.5. Safety Supervisor/Safety Officer


• Responsible for ensuring that all safety requirements necessary to start these activities is
provided by the construction group as per project HSE Manual and specification.
• Conducts inspection to ensure that all safety requirements are being maintained up to the
completion of this activity.
• Shall coordinate directly with the Project / Site Engineer regarding advisement on safety issues
and problems
• To report any safety violation to HSE Manager in order to take corrective action

5.6. HSE Manager – Responsible for reviewing this procedure to ensure systems of work are
in place/considered in each phase of the activities. He also has the overall responsibility of
ensuring, thought the safety supervisor/Safety Officer. Who works in the field are performed
safely and in compliance with all safety standards, stipulations functional responsibility to the
project manager.

5.7. Construction Foreman

• The foreman will out his duties by maintaining continuous with the site engineer on daily
basis, and ensure proper distribution of the workforce in the required and planned locations.
• To ensure that his assistance foreman/charge hand is aware of the job requirements and they
have enough information to carry out their duties properly.

• To ensure in consultation with the site engineer that the manpower involved the works are
moving as agreed and planned for the work
• To co-ordinate with the main contractor, MEP Coordinator and Safety Officer, for a safe and
proper execution of the works.
• To ensure full coordination with the safety officer to maintain safe work and proper
housekeeping of the site, following the approved safety measures and further ensure that all his
working team are aware of the same to prevent accident and loses.
• To inform the site engineer and of the areas ready for inspection
• Control of material shall be monitored by foreman and store keeping.

6.0 Materials and Equipment:

7.0 METHODOLOGY OF WORK


7.1. Delivery of Materials
A. Store Tiles package in clean dry area. No other materials to be placed on top of
Tiles package.
B. All Tiles will be packed with plastic, cardboard protection to edges.
C. Each Tile pack tagged with sticker with tile number and location.

7.2. Pre-Installation Preparation - Before stating the installation, the


following preparation should be made:
1. The area to be applied should be free from any loose materials such as dirts, mortar,
etc. Walls are roughened during plastering to ensure bond between tiles and walls.
2. Oils and Grease should be avoided so that proper bonding will be achieved.
3. The area to be applied with adhesive/glue shall be with reference to the lines and
grades and shall be plumbed/level.
4. Lightly rinse with water prior to setting tiles.
5. Perform cutting and drilling of tile without marring visible surface.
6. Fit tile to electrical fixtures, outlet and other penetration as shown in the shop
drawings.
7. Soak ceramic tiles in water 1 hour prior to setting.

Procedure - Prior to staring any work covered by this procedure, A pre-
construction meeting (if required) between directly involved
supervisory/management personnel of the contactor and the client
representatives shall be held.

7.3. Installation and Workmanship (Ceramic Tile)

1. Obtain centerline for both axis with reference to the building geometry.
2. Start installation of tiles in one direction along the centerline.
3. Tiles are to be set with tile adhesive/glue thoroughly (at its back) each tile is to be
beaten to ensure bond. The tile adhesive must be sufficiently set and tiles severely
bonded.
4. Install tiles with a 3mm plastic spacer at each corner so that lines for both axis shall
remain straight and at right angle with each other.
5. Wall tiles are to be installed over floor tiles. Install wall tiles in one course and verify
joints if it correlate with the approve lay-out.

7.4. Cleaning and Repair

1. Upon completion of placement of grout, clean all ceramic tile surfaces. Remove
cement grout residue from tile as soon as possible.
2. Leave finished installed tiles clean and free of cracked, chipped, broken and other
defective tiles.
3. Prohibit foot and wheel traffic from tiles floor for at least 7 days after grouting is
completed.

7.5. Inspection and Testing - Quality control inspection shall be conducted in


accordance with the approved inspection and Testing Plan (ITP)
 Clean joint by brush to ensure that thickness of tile is clear and free of foreign material.
 Add 5 kg of jitotile grout to 1.8 liter of water and mix until thick creamy paste is
produced; allow to stand for 10 minutes.
 Apply jitotile grout to the joint spaces between tiles using a sponge or soft cloth. Work
the mixture into the joints grouting the ceramics tile thickness and around the edges.
 Remove surplus from the face of the tiles with dry cloth and run the tip as a gloves
finger or a rounded piece of wood along the grouting.
 When the grout is dry, clean the tiles with a damp sponge.

 On completion of placement and grouting, clean all ceramic tile surfaces. Remove
cement grout residue from tile as soon as possible.

 Leave finished installation clean and free of cracked, chipped, broken, unbounded and
otherwise defective tile work.
 Prohibit foot and wheel traffic from tiles floors at least 7 days after grouting is
completed.
 Provide fixed protection or other heavy covering during construction period to prevent
staining, damage and wear.

8.0 Health and Safety Requirements

• All work shall be in strict compliance with approved procedures. Wear appropriate personal
protective equipment (PPE) throughout the installation process, including safety goggles, dust
mask, and gloves.
• Use caution when handling sharp tools, such as wet saws or tile cutters.
• Take regular breaks to avoid fatigue and prevent accidents.
• Follow all relevant safety guidelines and regulations.
• All safety precautions required and other applicable safety standards while performing all
activities shall be implemented.
• All Personnel shall ensure the safety and well-being of the workforce and monitor the
environmental impact of the active works.
• Additionally, A well-trained personnel shall be allowed to perform the work.

9.0. Quality Control

Request for inspection (RFI) shall be submitted to QA/QC section prior to commencing
the plastering work.

10.0 Records - All records must be kept secure. Access to these records
should be limited to authorize personnel only. Records should be regularly
reviewed and updated.
