1. INTRODUCTION
A) Purpose
Lime Preparation is to produce high quality lime milk for Bauxite Grinding (2P03-05), Pre-
Desilication and Digestion and Caustic Adjustment (Digestion) (2P04-0502), Integrated
Filtration (Control Filtration) (2P07-0501) and Acid Cleaning (2P13).
B) Technology Selection
Lime slaker is adopted to produce lime milk. The lime is fed to lime slaker by constant feeder.
In lime slaker, the lime will be mixed with hot water for slaking, and the concentration of the
lime milk can reach ~160g/l.
With associated inlet of water cleaning, the lime slaker can be cleaned by water when needed.
D) Process Description
Purchased lime is transported into the refinery and unloaded to the storage area. The lime is
transported into the receiving hopper of bucket elevators (2P02-05-LS-0001A/B), and then to
a lime bin, The lime in bin is fed to lime slaker (2P02-05-QU-0001) by constant feeder (2P02-
05-WB-0001). In lime slaker, the lime will be mixed with hot water from Hot Water Station
(2P14) for slaking. The qualified lime milk (CaOf~160g/l) flows to buffer tank (2P02-05-RN-
0001), and then be pumped into lime milk tanks (2P02-05-RN-0002A/B) . At last, the lime milk
will be sent to Bauxite Grinding (2P03-05), Pre-Desilication and Digestion and Caustic
Adjustment (Digestion) (2P04-0502), Integrated Filtration (Control Filtration) (2P07-0501) and
Acid Cleaning (2P13). The un-slaked lime residue will be discharged from the lime slaker
(2P02-05-QU-0001) and then sent to outside of the workshop building for storage by the belt
conveyor (2P02-05-LS-0002). The un-slaked lime residue will be carried away from the
refinery regularly.
2. RELATED DOCUMENTS
2.1 Process Flow Diagrams
The plant units related to Lime Milk Preparation (2P02) include Bauxite Grinding (2P03-05),
Pre-Desilication and Digestion and Caustic Adjustment (Digestion) (2P04-0502), Integrated
Filtration (Control Filtration) (2P07-0501) , Acid Cleaning (2P13) and Hot Water Station
(2P14). The main facilities in Lime Milk Preparation mainly include:
4. FACILITY DESCRIPTION
Lime slaker is a kind of simple structure but high efficiency facility to produce lime milk. Lime
and water is fed into the slaker from the inlet and finish the slaking process. The flow ratio
interlock control of lime and water is designed which can obtain lime milk of different solid
content according to the requirement of production. The equipment in Lime Milk Preparation
unit, such as lime slaker, lime milk tank, lime milk pump, are all placed on the ground in a
compact way.
There is a lime bin next to lime slaker which can meet the refinery lime consumption of 15
days.
Out Flows:
Lime milk to Pre-Desilication and Digestion and Caustic Adjustment (Digestion) (2P04-0502-
014-007),
4.2 Phenomenon
Function: Control the lime milk solid content in lime milk tank (2P02-05-RN-0001 and 2P02-
05-RN-0002A/B).
Control tool: The lime milk solid content is controlled by varying the speed of the hot water
pump (2P14-05-DP-0001A/B).
Function: Control the level of the lime milk tank (2P02-05-RN-0001) to avoid the level being
too high or too low.
Control tool: The level is controlled by start or stop the lime milk pump (2P02-05-DP-0001).
Function: Control the level of the lime milk tank(2P02-05-RN-0002A/B) to avoid the level
being too high or too low.
Control tool: The level is controlled by varying the speed of the lime milk pump (2P02-05-DP-
0002A/B).
Lime milk tank (2P02-05-RN-0001) also has the function of sump. The lime milk pump(2P02-
05-DP-0001) is automatically turned on and off when the level reaches the highest and lowest
set points. The valves on the pump discharge line usually stay open.
