The line chart indicates the number of complaints about noise from four

aspects in Newtown in 16 years since 1980.

In 1980, the number of complaints from road works was the highest,

which was roughly 650. The number from domestic was 500 higher than

that from factories (400). And the least was from traffic, which were

300.

In terms of domestic, there was an invariant in the first 4 years. This is

then followed by a decline until 1986. In the next 2 years the figure kept

unchanged with 400. However, the trend of domestic and that of traffic

were the same between 1980 and 1988. In the last 8 years, an increase in

the number of domestic was at a much faster pace than that of traffic,

and in 1996 the number for the former is 1200 and that for the latter is

600.

With regard to road works, during 16 years from 1980, there was a

decrease with the number decreasing from 650 to 100. On the contrary,

the figure for factories presented a growth growing from 400 to 700 in

1996. Noticeably, in 1982, the number of these two aspects was the same

with 600.

Overall, the figure for complaints of factories presented a rise, however,

others revealed a drop.
