Introduction
I have designed this hat as a continuation of the "Easy Peasy Cowl", which is beginner-friendly in
colourwork knitting. I used the same motif and multi-coloured background that is characteristic
of the Fair Isle technique. This project will be perfect for using balls of coloured yarn left after
your other knitwear. The stranded pattern is easy to knit, only two colours in one round and no
more than 3 stitches of one colour pass. But if you don't want to use so many colours, go ahead
and make a two-colour hat with me!
The pattern is written for the smaller size, with the number for the larger size in square bracket:
S/M [L/XL].

Instructions
Ribbing
The hat is worked in the round with circular needles.
Using smaller size needles, 3 mm/US #2 ½ , cast on 100 [108] sts with main colour (MC), join in
the round, making sure not to twist sts.
Place marker for BOR.
Work in 2x2 rib (k2, p2) for 8 rnds for both sizes.
Rnd 9 – increase evenly 8 sts [12 sts]:
• for size S/M: *k12, m1, k13, m1* repeat around.
• for size Medium: *k9, m1* repeat around.
Body
Switch to larger needles, 4 mm/ US #6.
With MC & BC, start working in stranded pattern according to the chart below. Start with colour
A and add more background colours, as shown in Chart 1. Work 38 rnds.
If you don't use a particular colour for 7 rounds (or less), you don't need to cut this yarn. If there
are more than 7 rounds (like for colour A), I recommend cutting the yarn and weaving in ends.

Finishing
Cut yarns and thread them through remaining live stitches and pull taut, closing the hole. Weave
in ends. Wash the hat gently and dry it flat; change the position of the hat every few hours. You
can also block it on an inflated balloon. Add a pompom if you like :)
