Your Excelencies the committee,

The honorable of jury,
Dear my friends who participate in this speech contest,
And my beloved brothers and sisters.

In the name of Allah SWT, the Lord of the world, the master of the day after, the creaotor of every
thing in this universe, where he has no partner. He has also given us such deeply enjoyable, particularly
faith, and healthy comfort, hence, we could attend here in a good situation and condition.
Peace and salutation be upon our prophet Muhammad SAW, who has taught us the cardinal
principles of the unity of God, obliged us to confess it with the tongue and believe it in the heart. He also
brought us from the darkness to the brightness, from stupidity to cleverness, in the other words,
“Minadzdzulumaati ilannuur.”

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Indeed, it is very great pleasure for me in this precious chance to deliver my speech to the most
honorable audiences here, entitled, “The Role of Madrasah in Improving The Quality of Education.”
Before I deliver the main point of my speech, I thank the committee of this program who has
invited our school to participate in this contest.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

What is Madrasah?
Madrasah is one of forms of Islamic educational institution which has a long history, which has
increased to eventually develop in formal educational institutions which are now known as Madrasah. At
the the beginning of its development, Madrasah was interpreted as the way of thinking of a thinker in a
field of science, then interpreted as a place of learning or educational and teaching institutions such as
schools with special connotations, which teach Islam or Islamic sciences..
As an effort to develop the knowledge and achievement of the ideals of a nation, the institutions
which have an important role are educational institutions both public and private, public or that are
characterized by Islam, including in this case Madrasah.

What is globalization?
Some sources define that globalization is relatively very rapid developments in communication,
transformation and information technology that can bring parts of the distant world into things that can be
easily reached.
Globalization in the perspective of Islamic society is both a threat and a challenge. It is a threat
because with communication devices such as TV, telephone, VCD, DVD or internet, we can
communicate with outsiders. we can enjoy specific entertainment that may not be in accordance with
Islamic norms. Children can be affected by cartoons that are full of violence or something that is not
worth seeing.
globalization can mean a challenge because we can benefit from globalization. of course, there are
positive values that can be responded by Muslims such as discipline, respect for other people's work,
competence, hard work and so forth.

Brothers and sisters,

Then what is the role of the madrasah in facing globalization?
Madrasah as a part of Islamic educational institutions take on a burden which is not light in order
to anticipate this globalization. Madrasah is expected to produce young generation of Muslims who are
intact, who has good personality, who have faith, who have knowledge and noble character.
There are at least five roles that can be developed by madrasah in producing generation of
Muslims: they are:
1. Madrasah is as a mean of sosializing the values of islamic teaching.
2. Madrasah is as a maintenance of religious traditions within the Muslim community.
3. Madrasah is as a place to shape the morals and personality of the young Muslim generation.
4. Madrasah is as a fortress of the morality of the nation which is now experiencing a crisis of
extraordinary moral decline.
5. Madrasah is as an alternative educational institution that can be chosen by Muslim parents.

Brothers and sisters,

In my humble opinion, the conclusion is: Madrasah occupies a unique and very important role for
Muslim communities. As one component of Islamic educational institutions, madrasah carries out the task
of integrating Islamic sciences with science.
If this task can be carried out optimally, madrasah is expected to be able to produce young
generation of wise and complete Muslims in the faith and science, of course with noble character. The

wise young generation is seen as having a whole personality, by combining three human potentials at
once, namely IQ, EQ and SQ. Here is the toughest challenge that must be faced by madrasah.
I think that’s all my speech. I am terribly sorry if I make many mistakes and inconveniences in my
