HOW DO YOU USE THIS MODULE
Before starting the module, I want you to set aside other tasks that will disturb you
while enjoying the lessons. Read the simple instructions below to successfully enjoy the
objectives of this kit. Have fun!
1. Follow carefully all the contents and instructions indicated in every page of this module.
2. Write on your notebook the concepts about the lessons. Writing enhances learning, that is
important to develop and keep in mind.
3. Perform all the provided activities in the module.
4. Let your facilitator/guardian assess your answers using the answer keycard.
5. Analyze conceptually the posttest and apply what you have learned.
6. Enjoy studying!
Expectations - These are what you will be able to know after completing the lessons
in the module.
Pre-test - This will measure your prior knowledge and the concepts to be mastered
throughout the lesson.
Looking Back - This section will measure what learnings and skills that you
understand from the previous lesson.
Brief Introduction-This section will give you an overview of the lesson.
Activities- These are activities designed to develop critical thinking and other
competencies. This can be done with or without a partner depending on the nature
of the activity.
Remember - This section summarizes the concepts and applications of the lessons.
Checking your Understanding - It will verify how you learned from the lesson.
Post-test - This will measure how much you have learned from the entire module.

BRIEF INTRODUCTION

Bus is a subsystem in the computer used to transfer the data between computer
components inside a computer or between a computer. The transfer of signal connection is
logically done in the connection of several peripherals on the same wire bus which are either
internal bus (connection to various internal devices) or external bus (connection to various
external devices).
- Internal slots for the following cards:
PCI – Peripheral Component Interconnect (for sound cards, network cards and modems)
PCIe – PCI Express (it succeeded the PCI slots)
PCMCIA – Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (common for
laptop computers)
AGP – Accelerated Graphics Port (high speed graphics port for video specially for 3D
computer graphics)
- External slot
USB – Universal Serial Bus (standard interface device for many peripheral devices in
either plug-and-play or those devices that may need device driver installation)
- Types of cards
Video card – also called graphics card is used for connection of output display unit
(monitor) of the computer, it has its own memory of 128MB to 2GB, usually have a 15pin
VGA (video graphics adapter) slot, others with DVI (digital visual interface) connector,
S-video (standard video), or composite video.
Sound card – provides the input and output audio signal to the computer system.
Network card – is the expansion card that allow the computer to connect to the network
and internet.
Recent design of computer motherboard contain different slots and have integrated on-
board connecting port at the front panel and back panel for external peripherals uses for mouse,
keyboard, monitor, sound, LAN and others. This make it easy to connect the devices and
additional card is optional for the normal functioning of the computer system.

B. The Softwares in Computer System
The System Software
The operating system is a system software installed in the computer to manage the
hardwares and softwares connected to the system. Operating system has its generic device
drivers in enabling basic peripheral devices in its operation for its input and output protocols.
Some peripherals may not be included in the installed devices and instead will need their own
driver for its installation.
Peripheral devices that uses their own device driver is programmed with its own machine
codes that rule and dictates information from the device to the computer. The structure include
speed and timing for the messages to be sent and received.
