INSTRUCTIONS TO LEARNER

(i) This task requires you to carry out research.

(ii) Make several sketches to help you chose the design. Include dates in all the sketches made.
(iii) Keep the sketches in your portfolio.
(iv) Clearly label your portfolio and artwork with your name and assessment number.
(v) Read the rubric before you start and complete the task.

ASSESSMENT TASK
Your school is hosting a Visual Arts exhibition to raise funds for a children’s home. The visual
Arts class has been asked to help by designing and making ornaments for the event.
Guided by your teacher, you are required to make an armlet inspired by culture using different
types of found materials.
a) Collect and prepare a variety of locally available materials suitable for making an armlet
such as;
• Inedible seeds
• Biro pen tubes
• Natural reeds
• Bamboo sticks
• straws
• Clay beads
• Papier mâché beads
• Paper roll beads
• Cut sticks
• Strings (reused yarns, sisal strings, manilla twine, copper or aluminium wire, nylon
twine etc.)
You may combine any of these materials to make the armlet. Ensure the materials are
appropriate for the project and have unique colour combinations, texture, and shapes.

b) Make several sketches of the armlet in pencil and chose the best design.
c) Colour the designs using either paint or colour pencils.
d) Store all the sketches made in your portfolio.
e) Measure the circumference of the middle part of your upper arm, to get the size of the
armlet, this can be adjusted depending on how big or small you want the armlet to be.
f) Using the design chosen, make the armlet using the materials you prepared.
g) Finish appropriately. Ensure the armlet can be worn.
