I eliminated our weekly reading log and

changed to quick writes after in-class silent
reading. This was difficult because it is
widespread practice to require a log, but
there was a lack of consistency. After
considering the desired outcome, which was
daily reading, I made the adjustment and
added the bonus of free writing.

I have made the choice to require my

students to write every day, knowing I would

with students. Most recently, a parent
informed me that her student that has an IEP
is struggling behaviorally. With the support of
the SpED instructor, we devised a new way to
assign and collect his schoolwork to help
reduce his aversion to anxiety levels.

On another occasion, I consulted a parent on

ways to help her student practice reading
and to lower the bar of resistance. I shared
games, like reading as many street signs as
possible when riding in the car.

Summary of Strengths and areas for growth

I am strong on working with diverse populations and learning how to best serve them. Yet, I
have not matured into collaborating with the community at large on behalf of the student
body. I need to consult with my colleagues and mentor on how this is best accomplished in
our virtual learning environment.
