Mariah Woodworth-Etter was a popular evangelist and faith healer in the late 19th and early 20th centuries known for strange occurrences at her meetings. People would go into trances, fall on the floor for hours, shake violently, cry, or have other unusual experiences. Newspaper articles from 1885 describe scenes from her meetings, with people going into trances or being struck down and lying apparently dead for hours before proclaiming conversion. Her methods were controversial and not sanctioned by Methodist clergy of the time.

was Mariah Woodworth editor she's the second general and Robert salir dents book God's generals she was known as the trance evangelist the title for this episode is Mariah Woodworth etter demonstrator of the demonic you're gonna want to keep watching hi I'm Daniel long thanks for joining me Mariah Woodworth ed er was born in 1844 and she died in 1924 she was a popular evangelist / faith healer in the late 19th and early 20th centuries she became popular because of the strange occurrences that took place at her evangelistic meetings people would go into trances and report seeing strange visions some would fall on the floor and lay there for hours others would shake violently some would cry weep and do many other similar things you see in modern charismatic churches in his book God's generals Roberts leered and says quote there hasn't been a greater demonstrator of God's Spirit since the book of Acts in Pentecostal history than Mariah Woodworth ed ER but ed ER was not a demonstrator of the Holy Spirit she was a demonstrator of the demonic and in this video I'm gonna show you through newspaper articles from the late 19th century what was going on in her meetings and then after that we're gonna compare Hindu Kundalini a demonic spirit with what took place in those meetings along with what is taking place and many modern charismatic churches today so what I'm about to show you proves that there is nothing new Under the Sun the weird occurrences the trances visions and voluntary shaking and the slain in the spirit phenomena we see so much of today what's happening during the time of Moriah wood were that her so let's examine the second general and Roberts Lyrid ins book God's generals all right so I had the first article that I want to show you up on my computer screen and you can see we are at news papers dot-com we're looking at the Daily Gazette Fort Wayne Indiana January 23rd there's the date January 23rd 1885 so this is the first newspaper that we're gonna look at it that describes what was taking place during a typical mariah Woodworth meeting now she was still mariah Woodworth she was not mariah Woodworth at her yet at her was her second husband she's still married to Philo Woodworth and she divorced him for infidelity we'll talk more about Philo's role in her career in the next video but what was happening here was demonic I mean these people are seeing things and in their minds are opened up to receive these dangerous spiritual visions and this kind of stuff happens even among people who are not Christians I'm gonna show you a video shortly of a Hindu temple where people are experiencing Kundalini and they're going into trances and they're falling on the floor and they're violently shaking the same kind of thing that happened at Mariah Woodworth Editors trance revivalist meetings and the same thing that happens today in modern charismatic churches so we're gonna look at that let's get into the article right now though sister Woodworth the Methodist lady evangelist who labored so long in this country is now at Hartford City about 40 miles from the city and has repeated her wonderful success in snatching Souls from the burning on evening at the Emmy Church a scene was enacted seldom witnessed miss Woodworth after delivering a sermon on the ten virgins called first seekers and asked or went to the anxious seat and soon many of them gave expression of conversion four of the number going into a trance and look at that lay for hours one of them a young lady was carried home on a stretcher I have by the way another article that talks about a 17 year old girl that went into a trance at one of what worthless meetings and was in that transfer days and they thought the girl was gonna die this stuff is real it is demonic now I was good I have got so much material on Mariah Woodworth I mean I can show you here clippings now let me go over here just really quickly let's just pause for a second I've got clipping after clipping here on Mariah Woodworth and I was actually going you can see that here on our divorce a description of the trances all of this stuff and so I was gonna do all a lot longer video but um go back here I was gonna do a lot longer video but I realized that all of the material that I had it was gonna take me about two maybe even two and a half hours to present and there's no way I was gonna put I was gonna put that much time into one video so I decided that I was gonna break them up into smaller segments and so that's what we're gonna do so one of them a young lady this is a lady in a trance one of them a young lady was carried home on a stretcher the meeting continued until four o'clock on Monday morning can you imagine that till four o'clock in the morning well that's the kind of stuff that took place years later at Azusa Street and as we move forward in exposing God's generals we'll talk about see more and the Azusa Street revival and I've got some newspaper clippings on that as well the meeting continued until four o'clock in the morning a young man who sat in derision wha and was scoffing at the scene now check this out this is really freaky he was scoffing at the scene before him at once was struck down and lay for hours apparently dead and when he came to proclaimed the tidings of a separation from all sin so that's what would happen these people will go into these trances and then a lot of them not all of them but a lot of them will come out and say they've been converted folks that is not how a person becomes inverted Paul makes it very clear a person is saved converted through the preaching of the gospel the gospel is the power of God for salvation not a trance but that's what would happen in these meetings some of the people will come out and say ha then converted I'm separate from sin well they would find out later on that that just wasn't true proclaimed the tidings of a separation from all sins sister Woodworth has captured the people and magnetizes her audience and the number increases at each meeting the lady will return to Allen County for in a few days and proclaim the word of life and a halt in this city the Methodist clergyman a Fort Wayne are not inclined to give her an opening in any way of this of the of the sanctuaries as her methods are of the extreme order and not sanctioned by the bishops of the church all right so that is the first article right now I want to go and I want to show you a video that shows clippings from a Hindu temple and I want to show you that what's going on in this temple is very very similar to what took place at Moriah Woodworth utters meetings okay so I have a video up on my screen and what I intend to do with this video is to show you that there's not much difference between what goes on in the occult such as in a Hindu temple and what happened at the Moriah Woodworth etter revival meetings as well as what is happening in the modern charismatic church there's a very short video you can see it's about three minutes long and we're going to start with what's going on in the church and we're going to switch back and forth between the church and the Hindu temple and let's do that now so here we go [Music] so you see there the pastor is laying his hands on people and they are falling in I used to think the stuff is just fake and some of it is but this is actually the Kundalini spirit this is exactly what it is there's a Hindu temple and you see the leader of that temple he is placing his hands on the head of that gentleman right there and he is about to fall over and there he goes right there he falls over and you see that there right there on the floor okay now you see a pastor at a church service doing the same thing knocking a lady right over he didn't even put his hands on her head that time and this guy's gonna do the same thing he's got his hands on this this gentleman said the leader of this Hindu temple is now going to wave his hands over him and he's going to roll right over boom so this is the part where you see a lot of involuntary shaking on the subject and so you see this this pastor here is putting his hands on the head of this one young girl and this woman is going to shake violently here watch this [Music] [Applause] okay and you see that all the time you see that you can you can find this stuff on YouTube everywhere this is again a Hindu temple and you can see this woman here is shaking involuntarily as the kundalini comes on her okay this gentleman same thing watch he's in his yoga posture and there he goes he's just shaking like crazy here's heads jerking back and forth now now we're gonna look at a heidi baker scene where heidi baker is actually imparting this kundalini spirit which she calls the holy spirit on this young man and he's rolling around on the floor like he is in serious pain and we're gonna see that right now here fire please sit on another one red fire so you see the young man right there in the corner he's rolling on the floor he's just like he's like he's on fire I mean that's what it looks like legacies us legacy the greatest thing you've ever seen in your life prophesy over them okay right here Hindu temple same thing this guy's look at this this guy's rolling all over the floor like he's in serious pain here same type of stuff all right and then you have the whole laughing revival thing there's rodney howard-browne there we're gonna show a clip of Kenneth Copeland here in a moment but you remember the whole laughing out loud stuff well it's the same thing watch back to Z Mia right yeah and these constitutional attorneys please forgive me I should never have left them come sit on the front row all right here's Kenneth Copeland [Applause] [Laughter] [Applause] [Laughter] ah [Laughter] [Applause] Oh Oh okay and this is just another occult temple and you can see it's not a church at all and you see this guy here just laughing and this is our last scene here [Music] and by the way look at the little girl right there in the middle if you can see her you guys on the podcast can't see her but I'll leave a youtube link in the description so you can watch the video but there's the this little girl here involuntarily shaking this guy over here laughing this guy laughing this isn't a church service and this stuff happens and these are called temples so there you have it a comparison there between what took place in a Hindu temple and an occult temple and what takes place now and the modern charismatic church and also what was taking place during Mariah Woodworth editors revivals so we are at the next article that I wanted to show you this is a really short article that was written about a 17 year old girl that went to a Mariah Woodworth meeting and fell into a trance and was in there and the the state this trance-like state for days and this was reported all over the country so this is this isn't the only article about this now I don't know what happened to the girl I'm assuming she didn't die because that would have been really big news but I looked all over newspapers calm did as much research as I could to see if if if the girl you know what happened to the girl after all this and it's a mystery I'm just assuming she lived this is around 1890 so this is about the same time that John Alexander Dowie deaths were being reported so I mean it would have been really big news if this girl died so I'm assuming she lived after we look at this article I'm gonna take you to another article and just highlight some things that were happening at a Mariah Woodworth at her meeting in 1885 so we're gonna look at that this is 1890 the Pittsburgh dispatch right up here the Pittsburgh dispatch Pennsylvania 14th December 1890 okay the latest victim of a sensational Indiana evangelist so the the title to the article is thrown in a trance and that's some of it like I said with these old newspapers if you're just listening to the podcast and you're hearing me struggle these old newspapers sometimes are a little bit difficult to read some of the letters on the words are missing and so you just kind of got to you just kind of guess what they say and I'm not sure what that word there says anyway Muncie Indiana December 13th miss Woodworth the noted trance evangelist is conducting a series of meetings here on Wednesday night miss Ruth Hughes age 17 went into a trance at the Woodworth meeting and has been wholly unconscious for hours at a time seemingly perfectly like lifeless miss Woodworth has appointed a bodyguard with instructions to permit no person to touch her claiming that God placed her there and if it is his command she will recover that's that's very very cruel I mean that's just awful that's abuse you know actually that is uh that is terrible since six o'clock Wednesday night okay so six o'clock Wednesday night so what what is the date here this is Sunday okay so this is several days this is suss being reported on Sunday since six o'clock Wednesday night no nourishment of any kind has been given the girl her face is badly swollen and many think she will die she went to the altar from her work when she was struck down the girl's father is irate and says she shall never enter his house great excitement prevails and force may be used to remove her from the church so this girl's laying here in a trance rigid laying there she's in obvious bad physical condition she's not been given any kind of food or water and that that's just what abuse now I want to come over here to this article this is from the Munsey evening press August 10th 1911 and what this is doing it's it's just a whole piece recapping what was going on because now she's kind of made a comeback and she's back doing revivals again and actually if you look over here let me just move over here I'll just show you the Muncie Times of September 24th 8:00 85 contains the following account of one of Miss Woodworth meetings reproduced from the Indianapolis times of the Sunday before okay so this is this is what took place at the meeting so I want to highlight some of the things that were going on in this meeting the things that we're taking place that would remind you of what took place or what takes place at many of the charismatic churches you may visit today or many of the churches you may see on YouTube where people are falling out all over the floor and they're you know being quote-unquote slain in the spirit and all that kind of stuff so so let's uh let's move down here I'm gonna want to find there we go okay so coming down here this is now this just just to just to let you know this reporter who wrote this piece was actually allowed to go on the stage and witness what took place from the stage he was watching from the stage and this is what he says words cannot describe the scenes that confronted the writer as he stood on that stage all right let's look up here a minute a minute the most violent crowded on the stage jumped up and down wrestled shook hands haloo and pushed off the exhausted and when worn out their places were filled with new cons with Converse and he says words cannot describe the scenes that confronted the writer as he stood on the stage and looked around at the confusion dozens were lying around rigid and lifeless as though in death so you can picture just pictured the Hindu temple with all those people lying around there I mean that's exactly what what it was like strong men shouting until they were hoarse then falling in a swoon women falling over benches and being trampled under feet children crying and weeping as though their parents were dead aged woman's or aged woman's aged women gesticulating and hysterically sobbing as their sons and in support had been as if their sons in support had been murdered and then look at this it affected persons rods in rods away a wagon load of people 40 rods away were noticed to hearing the Evangelist voice stopped their team and commenced a wild demonstration of joy among themselves people ran up and gathered around the wagons so they were surrounded with the concourse of people having a little meeting of their own with all its while with all with all its Wilding was that with all its wildest characteristics a man heard the Hallelujah jumped up and hallowed let me come up to the top here glory to God and fell down in a trance from which he did not awaken for hours one fellow who went into a trance state during services straightened himself up like a fence post as he attracted much attention and there was enough and there was not enough room to lay him down three men took hold of him and doubled him up so he could be put on a seat so anyway just just giving you some highlights here of what took place I don't have time to read the entire article I've got several articles like this that talk about the trans Evangelist there was also a copycat trans evangelist running the time doing the same thing that Mariah Woodworth was doing and she was also called a trans evangelist and and I can't actually remember her name but there this stuff this kind of stuff is not something that you know is is anything new there's nothing new Under the Sun this kind of stuff has been happening way way back even before Azusa Street so anyway just to show you that these things that were happening at the Mariah Woodworth then it was Mariah Woodworth at the Mariah Woodworth meetings were really not of the Holy Spirit at all but as you can see here they were wild they were out of control and that is not something of God so from what you have just seen was Mariah Woodworth at her a demonstrator of the Holy Spirit or was she a demonstrator of a different spirit a demonic spirit let me know what you think in the comments section below in the meantime be sure to check out the messed up church calm to read articles watch videos or even listen to podcasts into a really good job exposing false teachers just like Mariah Woodworth ed her that's the messed up Church calm I'll put a link in the description also in my previous videos you may have heard me mention historian Barry Morton who wrote some very important articles exposing John Alexander Dowie and John G Lake as the frauds that they were I'm also going to put another link in the description of a really good interview of Barry done by my friend Steve cozaar of the messed up Church on pirate Christian radios fighting for the faith in this podcast episode Steve and Barry discussed some of the history of the Zion movement talked about John G Lakes influence in South African Pentecostalism and even discussed Charles Fox poem and the para my killings you do not want to miss this episode of fighting for the faith well again thanks for watching join us next time as we continue to expose God's generals [Music]
