BIOGRAPHY AND CAREER

Professor Haman Tukur Sa’ad is a consummate architect and an academia. A


Professor of Architecture at the famous Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) since
1987 and later became vice chancellor at FUTA, Minna, after a memorable
academic career at ABU, his alma mater, spanning about four decades. He is also
an Ex Resident Electoral commissioner, Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC), Borno and Bauchi State, Nigeria.

He is the Chairman, IQSA Group Limited

Prof. Takur Sa’ad was born in Kano, Nigeria, and he grew up in a family that had a
long tradition of involvement in architecture and building design. His father was a
carpenter, and his grandfather was a builder. From a young age, Takur Sa’ad
showed an interest in design and architecture. He often drew buildings and other
structures, and he eventually decided to pursue a career in architecture. In high
school, he excelled in mathematics and science, which helped prepare him for his
future studies.

He was awarded the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) by President


Muhammadu Buhari and he is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Architect
(FNIA).

Professor Sa’ad completed his doctoral studies at the University of Michigan in


1981. He was visiting Professor at McGill University, Montreal, Canada from 1989-
1990. Also in 1990 he was Visiting Scholar at Massachusetts Institute of
Technology and Harvard University, Cambridge, USA.

He is also among the Board of Directors of Stratech Properties Limited, a Real


Estate Firm located at Garki District, Abuja, FCT.

Traditional Architecture in Hausaland; Folk Culture and Architecture in
Northeastern Nigeria etc.

National Mosque of Abuja

One of Saad's most notable projects is the National Mosque of Abuja. The mosque
is an iconic landmark that blends traditional Islamic architecture with modern
design. It's also one of the largest mosques in West Africa, with a capacity of over
120,000 worshippers. Saad's design of the mosque incorporates several
sustainable features, such as natural ventilation and solar power. Another
impressive project by Saad is the Nigerian Institute of Architects headquarters in
Abuja. It's a contemporary building that combines traditional Nigerian motifs with
modern design.

The Federal Capital Territory Housing Estate in Abuja.

This project is notable for its affordable and sustainable housing units. The estate
was designed with local materials and energy-efficient features, and it
incorporates natural ventilation and shading. Saad's work on this project earned
him the International Property Award for Sustainable Development in 2008.
Kaduna State University College of Agriculture & Teaching Hospital

Saad has also designed several schools and colleges in Nigeria, including the
Kaduna State University College of Agriculture. This project is notable for its
innovative use of natural light and ventilation, which helps to create a
comfortable learning environment. Saad has also designed the Kaduna State
University Teaching Hospital, which incorporates energy-saving features such as
passive cooling and natural lighting.

The Nigerian Institute of Leather Science and Technology in Zaria.

This project is notable for its striking and innovative design, which incorporates
elements of traditional Nigerian architecture. The institute's buildings are
designed to resemble the shape of a traditional Nigerian hat, which is an
interesting and creative touch. Saad's design for this project has earned him
several awards and accolades.
