Health & Safety Induction

Bluedot 2023
Welcome to Bluedot

The team at Bluedot take the safety of you and everyone


else working on this site very seriously.

The festival build and break is operating under the CDM


Regulations 2015.

Please read this induction thoroughly.

Everyone have responsibility for their own safety and for


others when working on site.

Personal Safety

• Hi-visibility vests must be worn by everyone during the build


and break phases of the event.

• Appropriate footwear must be worn at all times. No open toed


shoes are permitted.

• Hard hats must be worn whenever overhead work is taking


place.

• Further PPE must be work as per your risk assessment.

• No alcohol or intoxicating drugs are permitted whilst working.

• Make sure you are in a safe place before using your phone.
You must not use your phone during critical tasks.

• Always be aware of your surroundings. There may be


hazards around you. This is a building site.
Manual Handling

• Manual handling must be planned and included within your

company RAMS.

• Only lift things within your capacity.

• Use manual handling aids where possible, such as a forklift

or pallet truck.

• Arrange deliveries as close to their final destination as

possible.
Working at Height

• All working at height must be planned and included within


your company RAMS.

• Ladders must be placed on firm, stable surfaces as well as


being footed.

• You must not work on the top two rungs of any ladder.

• Do not use flight cases or storage boxes for access.

• Harnesses must be worn where needed and clipped on.

• Any fall arrest arrangements must have a suitable rescue


plan in place.

• Live or leading edges must have adequate protection from


falls.
Vehicles & Plant

• Only authorised vehicles are allowed on site. Please park personal


vehicle in the Yellow Gate Car Park.

• The site speed limit is strictly 5mph.

• To drive onsite you must produce a valid driving licence and/or


relevant certificates of competency.

• Keys will only be released upon the completion of a vehicle check sign
out sheet.

• Keys must be returned to the Site Office on a daily basis.

• Do not leave keys unattended in vehicles or plant.

• Where beacons are installed, they must be in operation when vehicles


are moving. Do not use your hazard lights whilst moving around site.

• Do not carry more people than there are seats available.

• Do not use your mobile phone whilst driving a vehicle or operating


plant.
Hazard Spotting

Keep yourself and others safe by reporting hazards to the Site


Office, no matter how small.

Possible hazards could include:


• Lack of access routes.
• Trailing cables.
• Unstable equipment.
• Poor working practices.
• Lack of PPE.

During the event, you can raise concerns to Event Control via
radio channel 1.
If you do not have a radio, security are located around the site
and you can let them know and they will relay the message to
Event Control.
Housekeeping

• Keep all areas tidy to reduce accidents on site.

• Store all tools and equipment securely when not in use.

• Speak to the Site Office if you require additional storage.

• Please use the bins provided on site.

• Do not black fire exit routes under any circumstances.

• Make sure that any chemicals or hazardous substances

are correctly stored and disposed of.


Welfare

• Drinking water is available on site, stay hydrated.

• Arrange suitable breaks for you and your team/

• Weather can be changeable. Be prepared and bring


suitable clothing for both hot and wet weather.

• Wear sun cream when working in the sun.

• We ask that you refrain from removing your top on this

site.

• Wash your hands regularly.


First Aid, Accidents,
Incidents & Near Misses

• Each contractor is responsible for ensuring they have

first aid provisions for their team.

• A first aid kit will be available from the Site Office.

• All accidents, incidents and near misses must be reported


to the Site Office.

• Please inform the Site Office if you need to/have called an


ambulance on site. In the event of this, please direct them
to use the main Jodrell Bank entrance (Purple Gate), so we
are able to escort them to the correct location.
Fire Safety

• Smoking is not permitted indoors, inside cabins and on stages.

• Extinguish all smoking materials correctly when outdoors.

• Fire extinguishers are present on site in appropriate areas.

• Do not attempt to fight a fire, unless it is safe to do and you


have adequate training to use fire extinguishers.

• All fire must be reported, no matter how small.

• Hot works are subject to a permit. You must notify and gain
permission from the Site Office before any hot works
commence.

• Good housekeeping can reduce fire risk. Keep areas clear of


combustibles.
Emergency Procedures

The assembly point during the build and break is:

Jodrell Bank Car Park

• Raise the alarm by shouting ‘fire’.

• Radio/contact the Site Office immediately.

• The site fire alarm will be an air horn.

• Leave the area, if safe to do so, and make your way to

the assembly point.

• Please follow instructions given by security, Fire Safety


Team or the Site Team who will be evacuating the area.
HOT Protocols

• Trust your instincts and


remain vigilant.

• Report anything suspicious


to the Site Office or Security
immediately.

• Use the HOT protocol to


decide if something is
suspicious.

• If you still think that the item


is suspicious after applying
the HOT protocols, please let
Security or the Site Office
know immediately.
RUN, HIDE, TELL
In the event of a firearms of weapons attack follow the
below.
Counter Terrorism

The UK Government (NacTSO) has issued counter terrorism


training that is free for all. It’s encouraged that you
complete this training regardless of your role on site.

This training will help everyone to understand, and mitigate


current terrorist methodologies.

Training takes around 45 minutes, it’s totally free and you


will receive a downloadable certificate at the end.
