1. LTE1111: Inter cell load generation for PDCCH

Introduction to the feature

The eNB can generate Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) load for any cell and
control the PDCCH interference level to its neighbor cells.

1.1 Benefits
The operator can perform downlink inter-cell interference related tests in field without UE.

1.2 Functional description

With the LTE1111: Inter cell load generation for PDCCH feature, when PDCCH load is less
than pre-defined level, dummy PDCCH with pre-defined power level can be generated to
make total downlink PDCCH load of neighbor cells to pre-defined level. By configuring a
minimum PDCCH load to the neighbor cells, the operator is able to test (intra-frequency) the
interference which neighbor cells are causing to the serving cell. The feature allows running
the test without testing the UEs.

The BTS transmits PDCCH dummy data (a pseudo random bit sequence) on resource
elements not allocated by the downlink scheduler. The dummy data is sent on all configured
antennas, for example single or two antennas. The power spectral density of the dummy
data is the same as for the PDCCH. The resource elements for the dummy data are
randomly selected on layer 1. The modulation scheme for the dummy data is Quadrature
Phase Shift Keying (QPSK).

The interference level (percentage of PDCCH resource elements used by normal users and
dummy data) is operator-configurable. The downlink scheduler is not limited by this setting
(it can allocate data as well above the interference level). Dummy data is only added if there
are not enough resource elements allocated to normal users.

1.2.1 Related parameters
Activate PDCCH load generation

The operator can activate or deactivateInter cell load generation for PDCCH by setting the
parameter actPdcchLoadGen to True or False accordingly. If actPdcchLoadGen is set to
True, pdcchLoadLevel and pdcchLoadPsdOffset parameters must be configured.

PDCCH load level

The PDCCH load level (pdcchLoadLevel) parameter configures the percentage of

used PDCCH CCEs on all available PDCCH Control Channel Elements (CCEs). Used PDCCH
CCEs include all CCEs of CSS/USS space and dummy PDCCHs. This parameter is not
restricting normal PDCCH allocation. Only when normal PDCCH load has not reached the
level defined by this parameter, the dummy PDCCHs is added.

PSD offset for dummy PDCCH

The PSD offset for dummy PDCCH (pdcchLoadPsdOffset) parameter defines the
dummy PDCCH PSD offset to flat Power Spectral Density (PSD). Maximum dummy PDCCH
PSD is calculated based on flat PSD and this offset. If there is not enough power remaining
for dummy PDCCHs, the smaller dummy PDCCH PSD is used.

to neighbor cells depends for example on radio network topology). The feature does not
affect the serving cell capacity, as dummy PDCCH is not added if all CCEs are used for
PDCCH transmission.
