Experiment No: 56 Date: 24.09.2020

ACTIVITY-56

AIM:
To verify if a given sequence is an AP or not.

MATERIALS REQUIRED: Graph paper, coloured

paper, geometry box, pair of scissors, glue.

PRE-REQUISITE KNOWLEDGE:

1. Concept of AP
2. Common difference
3. First term

PROCEDURE:

Step 1: Let the sequence is 1, 4, 7, 10…

Step 2: Cut strips of length1cm, 4cm, 7cm and 10cm and taking their
width as 1cm each.

Step 3: Take a square paper and paste them on it.

Step 4: Let another sequence is 1, 4, 6, 9,…

Step 5: Follow the steps done in first sequence and paste strip on
another square sheet.
OBSERVATION:

a) In first square sheet, the difference between the height of

successive strips is same i.e. 3cm.

b) In second square sheet, the difference between the height of

successive strips is not same i.e. 3cm, 2cm, 3cm.

RESULT: By the above activity, it is verified that the sequence

having same common difference is an AP.
