Sheet 9 – Development of Sections

1. A cone, 50 mm base diameter and 70 mm axis is standing on its base on Hp. It cut by a
section plane 450 inclined to Hp through base end of end generator. Draw projections,
sectional views, true shape of section and development of surfaces of remaining solid.

2. A hexagonal prism. 30 mm base side & 55 mm axis is lying on HP on its rect.face with
axis // to VP. It is cut by a section plane normal to HP and 30° inclined to VP bisecting
axis. Draw sec. Views, true shape & development.

3. A cone with a 60 mm base diameter and 75 mm long axis stands on its base on the H.P.
An auxiliary vertical plane having H.T. inclined at 45º to the V.P. cuts the cone, at a
distance of 12 mm away from the axis. Draw the sectional front view and develop the
lateral surface of the retained cone.

4. A square pyramid of base 40 mm side and height 70 mm rests on the H.P. on its base such
that one of the base edges makes an angle 200 with the V.P. It is cut by a section plane
inclined at 450 to H.P., perpendicular to V.P. and going through the mid height of the axis.
Draw the development of the lateral surface of the object below the cut section. Also find the
shortest distance between the mid-point of a base edge and that of the opposite base edge.
Trace this shortest path in the plan and elevation.
