Description of Change: This article replaces the article titled "Installation Of Kiene® Valve" in the
December 1990 issue.

A new manual valve group is used on these engines. The new Kiene valve in the new valve group
screws directly in to the cylinder head. An adapter and coupling were required to install the former
Kiene valve.

Adaptable To: The new 7C-7076 Manual Valve Group (not serviced at the group level) replaces the
7E-1699 Manual Valve Group (not serviced at the group level). The new 7C-7076 Manual Valve
Group includes the 7C-7077 Indicator Valve (Kiene valve) and a 7W-2656 Valve Cap (see the
illustration). The new valve group is effective as listed in the subtitle.

The former 7E-2492 Indicator Valve (Kiene valve), in the 7E-1699 Manual Valve Group, has been
canceled and replaced with the new 7C-7077 Indicator Valve (Kiene valve). The 7W-6734 Coupling
and 7E-2491 Adapter must be removed from the 7E-1699 Manual Valve Group before installing the
new Kiene valve. See "Removing Adapter" in "INSTALLATION OF KIENE VALVES" that follows.

Installation Of Kiene Valves

If a new 7C-7077 Indicator Valve (Kiene valve) is replacing a former 7E-2492 Indicator Valve (Kiene
valve), see Removing Adapter. If a 7C-7077 Indicator Valve (Kiene valve) is being replaced see
"Installing A 7C-7076 Manual Valve Group".

Removing Adapter

1. During engine operation, the threads of the adapter will adhere (stick) to the threads in the cylinder
head. With the engine running at normal operating temperatures, or immediately after the engine has
been shutdown, use the appropriate tooling to tighten the adapter a few degrees of rotation to break
the threads loose.

NOTE: Make sure the engine is shutdown before removing the adapter.

2. After tightening a few degrees of rotation, loosen the adapter a 1/4turn. Remove the adapter.

3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for all adapters that need to be removed.

1. Make sure the threads in the cylinder head are clean and free of burrs. If necessary, use a 2P-5534
Tap (1/2- 14 NPTF tap) to clean the threads.

2. Apply 4C-5598 High Temperature Anti-Seize to the threads in the cylinder head.

3. Install the 7C-7077 Indicator Valve (Kiene valve) into the cylinder head. Tighten the valve (3) to
torque of 50 N·m (37 lb ft). The valve stem (2) must be oriented between the 8 and 1 O'clock
positions when viewed from the side of the engine (12 O'clock is the preferred position). Continue to
tighten the valve [DO NOT TIGHTEN TO A TORQUE IN EXCESS OF 135 N·m (100 lb ft)] until
the valve is correctly oriented. If the valve stem (2) can NOT be correctly oriented within the
specified torque range, try a different valve. The correct orientation will allow access to the valve
stem (2) without interference from fuel lines.

4. Make sure the valve is turned off by turning the valve stem (2) in a counterclockwise direction to a
torque of 24 ± 4 N·m (18 ± 3 lb ft).

5. Install the 7W-2656 Valve Cap (2) on the valve (1) and tighten the cap to a torque of 17 ± 3 N·m
(13 ± 2 lb ft).
