ST.

JAMES PARISH AND FINANCE COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES


January 31, 2024

The meeting was called to order by President, Pat Klier, at 12:02 PM. Council members in attendance
were: Father John Silva, Pat Klier, Arlene Bodoh, Peter Zopf, and Steve Schultz (via Zoom); Trustees,
Jay Johnson and Joyce Pindel (via phone).

Father Silva offered an opening prayer.

Secretary’s Report – Minutes of the Council meeting from November 16, 2023 were approved
electronically and filed.

Correspondence – Pat Klier shared a couple of donations that were received. Jay Johnson shared a
few thank you notes that were received regarding scholarship awards.

Treasurer’s Report – Father John Silva passed out the financial statements. Dan Fitzpatrick is
absent today. The Council noted some variances between last year and current YTD. A follow-up
meeting will be scheduled when Dan Fitzpatrick is available.

The user access to the Fidelity account and credit card are not accurate. Father John Silva will make
sure the correct names are on the account.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Building and Maintenance - Jay Johnson shared three bids that have been received regarding
cemetery grass cutting. The Council suggested a follow-up with Myers Lawn Service, who currently
handles snow plowing services, before accepting a bid.
• Hallish $11,000
• Mantie $8,500 bi-weekly, or $11,735 weekly
• Crew Outdoors $4,000

Religious Education:
• Family Catechesis
-- February date changed from February 14 to February 7 because of Ash Wednesday Mass
-- All remaining meals are covered
-- Three children received their first Reconciliation on Wednesday, January 24

• Catechesis of the Good Shepherd


-- Starting a weekly afternoon session on Tuesdays from 3:45 PM to 5:00 PM, as well as the
Wednesday evenings during Family of Faith sessions.

• Adult Formation
-- Bible Study - 45 people between morning and evening class
-- One gentleman made his First Communion on Sunday
-- One RCIA candidate; in Florida till mid-March

Judy Hehr, a motivational speaker, is coming to present for Pastorate 10. There is a potential car pool
sign up coming to travel to Berlin.

OLD BUSINESS:
Update on Gift certificate letter to the Neshkoro village: Pat Klier shared that the gift certificates were
well received. Some gift card letters were returned by USPS. The gift cards from the returned letters
were donated to the Neshkoro food pantry, who was able to provide them to village members.

Update on statue restoration and changes in the old church: Father John Silva shared that the statue
restoration is still in progress. Wall-mounted missalette holders will be coming down now that the new
rolling-cart missalette holders have been implemented.

Update on the new piano: Pat Klier shared that the new piano has arrived. A check was sent out to
Heid Music this week.

Update on the new sound system: Jay Johnson shared that the project to install the Hearing Loop and
upgraded sound system is on track and projected to be completed before Easter. He is coordinating the
floor vendor to perform grout grinding at the appropriate schedule.

NEW BUSINESS:
Tuition Aid for next year: Jack Nation is volunteering to assist with questions and form completion
guidance. For awareness, this should be part of the Sunday Mass announcement.

New additions to the council constitution: Pat Klier handed out and reviewed the additions.
• Name change to Parish Finance Council
• Option for remote meeting attendance
• Option for electronic voting

150th Anniversary itinerary: Pat Klier shared the meeting minutes. Pierce Reese-Grimm has
volunteered to help out with advertising. The Community Choir is scheduled to perform. For insurance
paperwork, contact Kathy Walker in the parish office. Father John Silva shared that we should put out
a “save the date” for August 11; Bishop Hying will be celebrating the Mass. For awareness, this should
be included in the Sunday Mass bulletin.

We are accepting name suggestions for the Pastorate. A form is available online.

Easter Mass schedule will include three on Holy Thursday, three on Good Friday, one Easter Vigil at
All Saints and a Sunday Mass at all parishes. We will be adding an Easter Memorial envelope this year
where parishioners can provide a donation and the names of the remembrance will be included in the
Sunday Mass bulletin.

Next meeting date at St. James Church – March 13, 2024 @ 12:00 PM.

Father Silva closed the meeting with a prayer.

Meeting adjourned at 2:07 PM.
