Provide a brief history of the fascinating/critical moment during your class/ teamwork discussion.
The first week of our project hatchery class was awesome, it is the day when we start our
design thinking courses. At first, I have known already what it is about because I read
some article about it beforehand but then we learn a bit and share our thoughts on padlets.
What we shared there are our ideas and our desire for what kind of problem of ours that we
want it to be solved. I kind of get how the lecturer want us to understand, because design
thinking is all about how you solve a problem that can be meaningful to others (user self-
centred). Week 1st we’ve discuss things but more into emphasize part where we can
understand what sharing empathy to others means for example there this B problem and
we want to solve it, before we solve, we need to know why we want to solve it and
understand what’s the problem within it also I find this topic very interesting to learn and
complicated at the same time. Last, I got a funny and cool discussion with my group about
it.

What is it that made the moment is fascinating/ critical?

The thing that made the moment fascinating/critical is when we were trying to think on how
we make the empathy map and what kind of topic that we must use. Some of us have
many ideas towards it but we spend our time more into discussing about how can we
interact with other companies or think of what kind of problem that we need to solve. There
are many problems but because we were thinking too far about it so we can’t think of
anything else. However, at the end we understand and planned to have more discussions.

What were your immediate thoughts and responses?

Well, I got so many thoughts and I respond them with many ideas to be discussed later

What are your thoughts now? What has changed/developed your thinking?
Since then, I can develop how to think and empathize with problems that occurred around
us.
What have you learned from this?
I have learned a lot of things start with “how might we” till make an empathy map. What I
have taught from making an empathy map is the user self-centred part which is the most
important part of all. Empathizing means able to understand other people feelings which
means “people” or “user” has the main role here. We have to understand first what is the
problem? What is the thing that makes them having difficulty on that? How do they feel
towards it? Etc. So yea on week 1st we learned mostly about the empathize part.

The activity during the class was we need to identify and empathize to some facial expressions and at the end of the
class we need to discuss

During our presentation, it was brought to my attention by Gerald that our idea has been
done by another group in a previous project. However, in the end, we were allowed to
continue with it so at the end of the day it was not a problem.
What is it that made the moment is fascinating/ critical?
I previously thought that it was unthinkable that a certain problem with a specific solution
has been encountered by someone before and did not think to look it up before following
through with my idea.
What were your immediate thoughts and responses?
I think it was wasteful to try and come up with a solution that has already been proposed
before
What are your thoughts now? What has changed/developed your thinking?
I noticed that specific problems with specific solutions may have happened somewhere
else, and other people might have executed my idea before.
What have you learned from this?
I learned the importance to do preliminary research on a problem before proposing a
solution. It is very likely that someone out there has had the same problem before and
published a solution. I may then try to come up with an alternative solution on improve on
the existing solution.
