 The Parts of the Heart:
The heart is a muscular organ in most animals. This organ pumps blood through the blood vessels of
the circulatory system.

Superior Vena Cava

The superior vena cava (SVC) is a large, valveless vein that conveys venous
blood from the upper half of the body and returns it to the right atrium.
Tricuspid Valve
The tricuspid valve sends blood from the right atrium to the right ventricle.

Aorta
The aorta is the main artery that carries blood away from your heart to the rest
of your body.

Pulmonary Artery
Your pulmonary arteries are blood vessels that carry oxygen-poor blood from
the right side of your heart to your lungs.

The pumped blood carries oxygen and nutrients to the body, while carrying
metabolic waste such as carbon dioxide to the lungs.

 The Purpose of Study:

There are educational and scientific benefits to dissecting a pig heart.

1. Learning about Anatomy. When students dissect a pig heart, they gain hands on experience studying the
heart’s anatomy. They get to see the chambers, valves, coronary arteries, and major vessels from angles,
which enhances their understanding of how the heart's structure and functions.
2. Comparing Anatomy. The choice of using pig hearts for dissection is because they closely resemble
hearts in terms of size, structure, and function. By comparing pig hearts to hearts students can better
understand both the similarities and differences in anatomy between species. This comparison helps them
grasp the connections among organisms.

3. Dissecting a pig's heart gives vital information on the circulatory system for students seeking careers in
healthcare, such as medicine, nursing, or allied health professions. It helps future medical professionals in
comprehending the heart's normal design, which is essential for identifying and treating cardiovascular
disorders.

4. Dissecting the pig hearts can also introduce pupils to typical cardiac illnesses and disorders. Students can
learn more about cardiovascular conditions such coronary artery disease, valve problems, and heart
hypertrophy by analyzing sick or deformed pig hearts. For those working in the medical field and
academics researching cardiac disorders, this information is useful.

5. Scientific Research: In addition to instruction and instruction, scientific research also uses pig hearts.
They act as test subjects for the development of novel medications, medical equipment, and therapies. Pig
hearts are useful for investigating cardiovascular function and the course of disease because they exhibit
physiological responses that are like those of human hearts.

In conclusion, pig heart dissection is an important educational and scientific procedure that helps students and
researchers to gain a deeper understanding of the architecture, function, and diseases of the heart. It is essential for
developing medical knowledge and training healthcare personnel, which eventually improves human healthcare
outcomes.
