Lesson Plan in Grade 10 English

I. Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

a. Recognize the difference between prejudice and bias;

b. Show situation that depicts prejudice and bias; and

c. Reflect the message of the short video through oral recitation.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Prejudice and Bias

C. Materials: Instructional materials, pictures, video clips (laptop)

III. Procedure

1. Preliminaries:

• Prayer

• Greetings

• Class Orderliness

• Checking of Attendance

2. Review:

a. What is poetry?

b. Enumerate the elements of poetry.

3. Motivation:

“What’s with Me?”


 The teacher will post pictures on the board.
 The teacher will select two to three (2-3) students randomly.
 The teacher will let the students to describe the pictures.
 After the students describe the pictures, the teacher will ask at least two (2) questions from other
student in class.

4. Lesson Presentation:

 Presentation of objectives and lesson.


 The teacher will present two (2) scenarios before she will proceed to the main topic.
 Bias means a tendency to favor one person, group, thing or point of view over another, often in
an unfair way.
Example:
Female teachers give more attention to girls.
 Prejudice is an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought
or reason.
Example:
It is sometimes assumed that someone who is physically disabled is also mentally disabled.
 The teacher will show a short video clip and ask few questions from the students after.

A. Activity

“Show Me What You’ve Got!”

 The teacher will divide the class into two (2) groups.
 The teacher will present two (2) different colored papers in the class.
 Each colored paper has different task.
 Each group will choose one colored paper.
 Each group will be given five (5) minutes to do the task.
 Each group will choose one (1) representative to report the task.
 Each representative of the group will be given two (2) minutes to present the task.
CRITERIA

B. Analysis:

 During the activity, how were you able to do your task?


 What is the difference between bias and prejudice?
 Give me your own example of bias. How about an example of prejudice?

C. Abstraction:

 What is the importance of fairness in the life of a human being?


 How does prejudice and bias affect the social interaction of the people?

D. Application:

“Watch and Learn!”

 The teacher will show the students a short video clip.


 The teacher will instruct the students to watch and observe it carefully.
 Then teacher will instruct the students to write a reflection about the video.
 The teacher will ask few questions to the students after watching the video.

Questions:

 What is your message to those people who are biased and judgmental?
 If you were in the situation of the boy in the video, what would you feel if you tried to talk to the
girl and she ignored you without knowing her situation?
 What is your message to the people who experienced bias and prejudice?

IV. Evaluation

Direction: In a ½ sheet of paper, make one (1) scenario that shows bias and one (1) scenario that shows
prejudice.

CRITERIA

V. Assignment

Direction: In a long bond paper, draw something that illustrates prejudice.
